Chapter 192: The Crimson Night [20]
At the heart of the dark dimension, as Goddess Serena’s white sword shattered into countless fragments of light and dissolved into nothingness, an indescribable sense of peace took root within Cassian... or Avaris. A twisted, sick kind of freedom followed it.
It felt like the invisible chains that had weighed down his soul for centuries had finally snapped. His insane grin stretched even wider.
But that moment of peace did not even last a fraction of a second.
BOOM!
A massive golden hand tore through the darkness at an impossible speed and slammed directly into Cassian’s face.
Archangel Solariel had poured all of his divine rage into that single strike, fueled by the destruction of the sacred artifact.
A sickening crack echoed as Cassian’s skull shattered.
His neck snapped backward, his head nearly torn from his body as the rest of him was hurled dozens of meters away like a broken puppet.
Solariel’s eyes burned with blinding gold as he instantly formed a massive sword of pure light in midair.
Without wasting even a moment, he lunged at Cassian’s seemingly lifeless body, its head crushed, black blood pouring from his neck. Raising the blade with both hands, he brought it down mercilessly to pierce his heart.
But the sword struck nothing.
Just before impact, black hands burst out from beneath the ground and dragged Cassian’s ruined body into the darkness.
Solariel’s massive blade slammed into the empty ground instead, sending golden sparks flying.
The noble expression on the archangel’s face twisted into pure madness.
In all his thousands of years of existence, he had never felt so humiliated... so powerless.
"SHOW YOURSELF, YOU WRETCHED WORM!" he roared.
In a fit of rage, he channeled all of his sacred mana through the blade and into the depths below.
The energy swelled beneath the surface like a rising sun... expanding, growing, until—
BOOOOM!
A massive explosion tore apart the underground. Sacred energy blasted through the darkness, the earth, and the stone, sending everything flying.
The force was so immense that even the foundations of Frosthelm far above trembled. Buildings cracked, streets split apart.
Both of them were thrown back up to the ruined surface of the capital, carried by the collapse of the underground and the shattered dimension.
The ground had caved in, leaving behind a massive crater at the heart of the city.
Solariel steadied himself midair with graceful ease. But before he could even catch his breath, dozens of enormous black arms erupted from the collapsing earth below.
Those pitch black limbs lunged from all directions, reaching for him.
Solariel frowned in disgust. A blinding wave of holy energy burst from his body.
The moment it spread, every single one of those chaos arms trying to grab him was vaporized into nothing.
And then... he heard it.
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
A laugh that tore through the sky itself.
Cassian rose from the ruins, his shattered skull already fully restored. He cracked his neck as he floated upward, his red eyes burning with pure madness.
He had nothing left to protect. Nothing left to lose.
Frosthelm had fallen. Everything he once had was already gone.
Now there was only him... and his enemies.
And Cassian wanted nothing more than to tear them apart.
The battle turned into absolute apocalypse across the sky and the ruins of the capital.
In terms of raw power, speed, and purity of mana, Solariel was clearly superior.
Every swing of his golden blade warped space itself. His twenty four massive wings gave him movement at the speed of light.
With each strike, the archangel overwhelmed Cassian, smashing him into buildings, tearing through his flesh, burning him alive.
And yet... somehow, the one being worn down was not Cassian.
Because Cassian did not care.
He did not defend. He did not avoid damage.
He only attacked.
When Solariel tore open his chest, Cassian simply laughed and hurled black flames straight into his face.
Even the weakest of Cassian’s chaos bursts swallowed entire sections of the city, erasing buildings, streets, and even angels from existence in seconds.
"What’s wrong, Solatus?!" Cassian shouted, taking a spear of light straight through his shoulder. "Didn’t Yavres teach you how to hit harder? HAHAHA!"
Cassian did not just want to kill the archangel.
He wanted to break him.
To shatter that flawless divine pride and drag him down into mud and blood.
Solariel gritted his teeth.
Gripping his sword with both hands, he thrust it straight toward Cassian’s heart.
Cassian blocked it instantly with a black blade formed in his hand. The two weapons collided, sending out a massive shockwave.
Cassian stared straight into Solariel’s eyes, that insane grin still on his face.
Then the archangel’s wings moved.
All twenty four of them snapped forward at once.
They were so fast that both of Cassian’s arms were cleanly severed just below the elbows in an instant.
As the severed limbs fell from the sky, Solariel expected panic... retreat... fear.
But Cassian did not move an inch.
His red eyes gleamed even brighter, filled not with pain, but with twisted pleasure.
The black blood spraying from his arms froze midair, solidifying into two massive jagged blades.
Cassian lunged forward.
Before Solariel could react, those blood blades pierced straight through his golden armor and into his chest.
The moment they entered, Cassian’s blood exploded inside him like a curse.
That black liquid spread through Solariel’s divine veins like poison.
"Kuh...!"
Solariel’s eyes widened in shock as a mixture of gold and black blood spilled from his mouth.
He could feel it.
His organs tearing apart.
His divine essence... being tainted.
With a desperate roar, Solariel grabbed Cassian by the collar and slammed him into the stone ground with all his strength.
BOOM!
Cassian was driven deep into the earth.
Solariel followed him down and began raining punches infused with sacred mana.
Again and again.
The sounds of breaking bones and crushed flesh echoed.
He did not stop.
He kept going until Cassian’s body was completely destroyed, reduced to nothing but a single beating black Dragon Heart in a pool of blood.
Panting, Solariel wiped the black blood from his mouth and raised his hand.
A pure white spear of light formed above him.
He drove it down to destroy the heart.
But before it could strike...
The heart exploded.
Cassian’s blood burst outward like a cursed storm, surging straight toward the archangel.
Solariel immediately surrounded himself with a barrier of sacred mana, his expression filled with arrogance.
"You cannot curse an angel—"
He stopped.
His pupils trembled.
The barrier had done nothing.
Black blood began pouring from his golden eyes, from his nose, from his mouth.
He could not breathe.
His divine body trembled.
Slowly, he raised a shaking hand and touched the blood on his face.
Black.
Rotting.
Mixed with gold.
His holiness... had been corrupted.
That realization froze his mind.
Then pain hit.
A massive cross shaped wound tore open across his chest, followed by an unbearable agony.
Before he could react, a colossal hammer of ice slammed into his face, crushing it and sending him flying into a ruined tower.
Through the dust, Cassian stood there, completely intact, resting the massive hammer on his shoulder.
That same sick grin stretched across his face.
Mocking, almost whining, he mimicked Solariel’s earlier words.
"You cannot curse an angel..."
Then he snorted.
"Pfft."
"Let’s see if you can still talk like that when I shove a flaming spear up your holy ass, you winged freak."
Solariel rose from the rubble, struggling against the burning curse spreading through his body. The noble look in his eyes was gone, replaced by pure killing instinct.
He spread his wings—
BOOM!
Cassian brought the massive ice hammer down on his head again.
The entire capital shook like an earthquake as Solariel was slammed into the ground.
Laughing madly, Cassian lifted the hammer and struck again.
But this time, Solariel caught it with one hand.
Black blood poured from his mouth. His knees trembled.
But he held on.
Cassian’s grin widened even further at the sight of his suffering.
He pushed harder, pouring more chaos into the hammer.
Realizing he could not endure it, all twenty four of Solariel’s wings sharpened into spears and shot forward at once to impale Cassian from every direction.
But black hands erupted from Cassian’s body.
They caught the wings midair, stopping them just before they could pierce his flesh.
Solariel’s eyes widened in despair.
Cassian kicked him straight in the face.
The angel’s head slammed into the ground.
And Cassian did not stop.
He began stomping.
Over and over.
Trying to crush his head, grind him into the dirt like an insect, all while laughing hysterically.
But at the peak of his frenzy...
Cassian’s body was suddenly pierced in dozens of places.
From afar, highly focused beams of divine light tore through him. His torso, his legs, his arms... even the top of his head was blown apart.
Massive smoking holes opened across his body.
Part of his brain was gone.
Half his skull was missing.
And yet...
He did not fall.
Slowly, mechanically, what remained of his head turned toward the attackers.
A group of lesser angels hovered in the distance, their hands glowing with light.
Cassian’s ruined face locked onto them.
The only thing left intact... his lips.
They slowly curled upward.
That horrifying smile seeped straight into their souls.
A low, blood soaked chuckle escaped him.
Before they could fire again—
"Get lost in my nothingness."
The sky went dark.
A massive wave of chaos descended like a waterfall, swallowing the entire capital... even the distant mountains.
Pitch black.
Absolute chaos.
It crashed down upon the world.
The explosion made no sound.
But its destruction was absolute.
Every building, every street, every angel, even the ancient walls of Frosthelm... all of it was erased within seconds.
As if a piece of the world had been bitten off.
All that remained was a vast, smoking, endless black crater.
And at its center...
A laughter that would never stop.
