Chapter 669 - 640: Admitting Fault
Chapter 669 - 640: Admitting Fault
That evening, whatever Simon Forrester discussed with Kevin Chaucer and Vincent Zollner, he alone knew.Throughout March, Sienna Thornton was overwhelmed with work and had no time to dwell on that matter.
Two days before Qingming Festival, she returned to her parents’ house to discuss with Quentin Thorne about returning to their hometown to visit the graves of their ancestors, and she suddenly heard that Mina Thorne and Seth Sutton were going through a divorce at the end of February. Originally, both families had decided to respect the decision of the young couple, but in early March, Mina unexpectedly discovered that she was pregnant, hence the divorce was left unresolved.
When Sienna mentioned this to Simon Forrester, he sarcastically remarked, "They didn’t really want a divorce. If they were serious, nothing could stop them."
Sienna recalled Quentin saying that Seth and Mina had been arguing on and off since they started dating, breaking up and getting back together for years. When they finally got married, the divorce drama continued, which she found rather poignant.
She laughed, "They’re just too idle. If they were as busy as I am, they’d have no time for divorce."
She said this right after putting their child to sleep, suddenly remembering the stored milk bottles in the small fridge still needed washing, so she crawled out of bed to handle them.
Simon had just finished his shower and came down to make a cup of coffee, planning to go back upstairs to work after drinking it.
The two met in the kitchen. After making his coffee, Simon decided to sit down and chat for a bit while he drank.
Sienna finished washing the bottles, poured herself a glass of water, sat opposite Simon, and counted with her fingers, "Our son is eight months old. I have four more months until freedom."
She was referring to weaning.
Simon smiled, "Our son’s milk needs aren’t as demanding as before. You could rely on stored milk until he turns one, and go ahead and wean now to save yourself the trouble."
"It’s going pretty well now, and there’s only four months to go. It’s no big deal."
Maybe it’s the addition of solid foods, but the baby usually falls asleep at nine, wakes once at three in the morning for milk, then sleeps straight through until eight or nine, which is already a relief compared to the earlier days of three feedings a night.
Sienna’s sleep improved, her vitality during the day enhanced, and her overall state was much better than the previous months. She had no other extravagant desires.
The two chatted for a while. Simon hugged Sienna as they went upstairs, followed her into the room to check on the sleeping child, kissed her goodnight, and then went to the study to handle work.
With the world set to fully enter the era of artificial intelligence in the coming years, Simon had discussed with other senior executives and decided to venture into the robotics industry to complete Forrester Group’s industrial transformation. Consequently, his work had been much busier this year than in previous years. However, no matter how busy, he insisted on leaving the office at five o’clock daily, returning home to prepare dinner and care for the child. The work he couldn’t finish during the day, he continued after the child fell asleep.
Both husband and wife were striving tirelessly for their respective careers while also trying to spend as much time as possible with their child and each other.
...
On Qingming Festival, Simon and Sienna left the child under Sylvia Langley’s care and went back to the Thorne family’s hometown to visit the ancestors’ graves. Unlike the previous year, Quentin had brought Melinda Linton with him this time.
Initially, Sienna disagreed, fearing Mina would hurl harsh words and attack the elder upon seeing Melinda. But to her surprise, when Mina saw Melinda joining them to visit the graves, she didn’t show any rejection and even amicably called Melinda "Auntie" and called her "Sienna."
Simon was equally surprised and privately said to Sienna, "Maybe the pregnancy changed her personality; maybe she told herself to become a better person."
Sienna chuckled at that, "Alright, enough gossiping about others."
The two carried the offerings for the ancestor veneration, trailing at the end of the group while Melinda walked alongside Quentin, followed by Mina and her husband.
Seeing that their eldest daughter and son-in-law hadn’t caught up, Quentin frequently looked back, waving to them to catch up with the group.
The couple, however, enjoyed the simple pleasure of distancing themselves from the crowd.
.
The Thorne family has its own small cemetery where all deceased family members are buried, including Ian Grant.
Quentin led Mrs. Thorne, Melinda, and their daughter’s family to follow all the Thorne relatives to pay respects according to the hierarchy of ancestors, finally arriving at Ian Grant’s grave.
Sienna asked Simon to assist Quentin, while she and Melinda took a break in the pavilion.
Quentin made no comment, but Mina’s face clearly showed displeasure. Sienna, however, cared little for it, sitting in the pavilion gazing at the scenery below.
...
By early morning, they had finished the tomb visits, and everyone gathered at the parking lot to return to the Thorne Clan Association Building for lunch.
Quentin’s family of seven and Uncle Three’s family of three perfectly filled a table together. During the meal, Aunt Three, having heard of Mina’s pregnancy, enthusiastically offered to introduce her to a good obstetrician she knew.
Mina said nothing, but it was Seth who asked, "How’s this doctor you mentioned? I heard she’s good?"
Simon replied, "She’s a young female doctor, not too much older than Annie. If you don’t mind having a young doctor, I could introduce her to you."
Seth quickly said, "Skill is all that matters, and a female doctor is preferable. If it’s a natural birth but a male doctor delivers the baby, it would make me uncomfortable."
Upon hearing this, Sienna looked at Mina to gauge her reaction.
Mina didn’t object, a faint smile on her lips, seemingly pleased with the possessiveness implied in Seth’s remark, "make me uncomfortable."
Everyone else joined in laughter, commenting on how traditional Seth was for his young age. The tone didn’t express disapproval, but rather acknowledged that such traditional views still had some merit?
Sienna mentally rolled her eyes, thinking how in this day and age, traditional male chauvinism could still be considered a virtue.
After the meal, while the elders enjoyed tea, the younger generation went to pick organic strawberries. Sienna wanted to pick some to bring home for her son, so she took a small basket and went to the strawberry garden with Simon.
The couple walked behind the rest of the family, following the group, when Seth appeared out of nowhere and offered Simon a cigarette, which Simon declined. Seth then said he had something to ask and pulled Simon aside.
Sienna, holding her small basket, wandered around, feeling quite at ease. As she walked, she suddenly heard someone calling, "Sister."
She turned her head to see Mina holding a small basket as well.
She looked her up and down, before finally fixing her gaze on Mina’s face, saying nothing but raising her eyebrows inquisitively.
Mina took a few steps to walk alongside her, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "I want to see the obstetrician who delivered your baby. Could you introduce her to me?"
"I’ll send you her contact later. You can get in touch with her directly."
"Alright."
Sienna withdrew her gaze and continued walking forward.
The two walked on in silence for a while until Mina suddenly said softly, "I’m sorry for how I treated you and Auntie before. I’ve realized my mistakes and hope you can forgive me."
Sienna curled her lips into a smile, but didn’t look at her. Her eyes remained on the road ahead, "Where do you think you went wrong?"
