Chapter 655 - 626: Attending the Banquet
Chapter 655 - 626: Attending the Banquet
On the evening of the dinner invitation, Sienna fed the child well and prepared the milk he would drink at night, then let Simon take him to Melinda.Since she didn’t want to see Quentin, she sat in the car with Sylvia waiting.
After sitting quietly for a while, Sylvia asked, "Why is Old Man Grant inviting those old folks next door to boast and drink heavily, and pulling you and Jules along?"
Sienna wasn’t too sure either, but she guessed that Old Master Grant inviting everyone at this time and having Old Master Forrester call her and Simon over must have been because Quentin said something at the Grant Family.
Inviting all the neighbors, clearly not a reconciliation feast.
Sienna felt that tonight’s banquet was likely the Grant Family’s way to humiliate her, to give her a taste of their power, making her and Quentin behave and stop causing trouble.
Therefore, when Sylvia asked, Sienna thought that tonight was about calling her over to help argue, so it was not good to hide the truth from her, and she mentioned some things that had happened over the past few days.
Upon hearing about the terrible things the Grant Family did back then, Sylvia was just dumbfounded.
"Doesn’t Ian think of himself as particularly noble? How could he do such shameless things?" Sylvia mocked, "He’s the same as Old Man Grant in essence, looking down on everyone and always thinking others are wrong or owe them."
Sienna thought, under such almost inherited education, Mina probably has this thinking too, doesn’t she? She finally understood why Mina put on such a bitter face every time she saw her, probably still feeling that she and her mother owed her.
She used to fantasize whether the relationship with Mina would improve over time, but now it seems that being strangers is actually the best state.
She was dazed, silent, while the outspoken Sylvia began to speak: "Your sister hasn’t had any news yet? It’s been almost two years since she got married, right?"
"Hmm?" Sienna snapped back, "It seems there’s no word of a child."
Sylvia leaned into her ear mysteriously: "I heard from a friend that she doesn’t get along with her in-laws, and her relationship with her husband isn’t good either. Could it be that the man is planning a divorce, so she deliberately doesn’t want children?"
Sienna shook her head: "I don’t know."
"Honestly, that bitter face of hers brings bad luck to any family. Previously, at Old Mr. King’s grandson’s wedding, Zachary Grant’s wife jokingly said she wanted to pair Jules with her..."
Sylvia hadn’t finished talking when there suddenly was a dull thud on the car door, followed by a bit of cold air sneaking into the warm car interior.
Sienna looked toward the driver’s seat.
Simon was frowning at Sylvia: "What nonsense are you talking?"
Sylvia glanced at her daughter-in-law, smiled awkwardly: "That was a long time ago, back then you hadn’t met Jules yet... Besides, Zachary’s wife was just joking, everyone knows our Jules has high standards, didn’t he only pick someone at over thirty to marry?"
While praising her son, she made sure to include her daughter-in-law too.
Sienna smiled, watching Simon start the car.
"So they almost went on a blind date?" she asked Sylvia.
"That’s impossible!" Sylvia suddenly looked serious, "I argued with Zachary’s wife on the spot. I would never approve of that girl! No talent, no looks, and so short, she would lower Jules’ genes!"
Saying so, she naturally sat up straight, hands on her waist, chin slightly raised, looking like she was about to start a long rant. But before she could speak, Simon cut her off irritably with, "Alright, alright."
The car drove away from The Springs Residences.
In the driver’s seat, Simon was fuming, resentment resurfacing from old stories brought up by Sylvia; meanwhile, in the back, Sylvia and Sienna continued their lively chat, completely ignoring him.
Under normal circumstances, Sienna would certainly make fun of Simon over this, but due to tonight’s unique banquet, her nerves were tense, and she couldn’t bother with Simon’s history.
...
Tonight’s banquet at the Grant’s old residence.
The car passed the Grant’s driveway, and Sienna took a good look, seeing a row of luxury cars and government-plated vehicles parked at the entrance.
It made her suspicious; if it was just inviting old neighbors, why were there so many cars?
Was tonight really the banquet of intrigue?
She calmly held her bag tightly, getting off the car with Sylvia.
Old Master Forrester was ready in the living room, just waiting for them to gather and head to the Grant Family next door together. The old man craned his neck to look outside, seeing his grandson enter the inner courtyard, he walked to the door merrily to greet them.
After greeting the old man, Sienna pulled Sylvia into the living room to sit. It was clear Sylvia didn’t care much for Old Master Forrester and didn’t greet him.
Old Master Forrester seemed forgetful, eagerly asking, "Sylvia, are you staying with Jules in the city to help with the baby now?"
Sylvia replied crossly: "What else?"
Old Master Forrester smiled contentedly: "That’s good, that’s good. Otherwise, Dean Thorne always says our Forrester Family has no one to help with the children, and won’t agree to Annie having a second child!"
If he hadn’t mentioned it, Sylvia wouldn’t have been so upset, sharply responding: "I’m over there helping with the grandson, and your son does nothing but drive the nanny away. Is he nuts?"
Old Master Forrester lightly coughed, looking quite displeased, didn’t answer the question, instead looked at his grandson. Before saying anything, Simon asked: "Did Grandpa Grant mention why he’s having the neighbors over for dinner tonight?"
Old Master Forrester sighed, with a rather somber tone: "He said he doesn’t have much time left, and wants to gather with the neighbors one last time before he goes."
He’s only a few years younger than Old Master Grant, and seeing childhood friends starting to arrange affairs for after their passing, it made him anxious too.
"Mention anything else?"
Old Master Forrester shook his head: "Anything else?"
Simon didn’t answer, glanced at Sienna.
Sienna pursed her lips and nodded, then he stood up and said, "Let’s go."
The four of them walked to the Grant Family’s next door. At the entrance, they met Tobias, who was walking and talking on the phone. He nodded to Old Master Forrester and the others and went to the roadside to continue his call.
Sienna tugged on Simon’s arm, asking softly: "Why is Mr. Blackwood here?"
"I asked him to come, maybe he’ll be useful."
Sienna didn’t know what he was planning, wanting to ask, but with so many Grant Family guests coming and going, it wasn’t convenient.
The Forrester Family group made their way through the outer courtyard to the inner courtyard. The inner courtyard was brightly lit and lively, with several sets of tables and chairs set up for guests to enjoy tea, sweets, and chat.
Next door, Old Mr. King noticed Old Master Forrester arriving and called him over to sit, making Old Master Forrester beam as he went over.
Sienna hooked her arm with Sylvia’s, following Simon inside.
In the ancient and aromatic inner hall, the antique glass lamps cast a mysterious ancient glow. In the center, the full set of huanghuali wooden sofas, those present included the Eldest Grant, Grant Two, Grant Three, Ronan, Logan, and Jack, busy playing cards.
