Chapter 552 - 524: Fourth Update

(Chapter 7 with additional votes)A week after Simon Forrester and his wife moved into The Fenmore Villa, on an evening during a workday, they were planning to have dinner at Melinda Linton’s place when Quentin Thorne called. He said Ian Grant wanted to see Sienna Thornton and asked if she was willing.

Sienna Thornton instinctively replied, "Sure."

She didn’t want someone about to pass away to have regrets because of her, and no matter how horrible the person was before, she just didn’t want any unresolved grudges on her end.

Simon Forrester drove her to the Thorne Family villa and went inside with her.

Both floors of the villa were lit up. When they entered, Zachary Grant and his wife, the four Grant brothers, and Ronan Grant’s parents were all present. Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton went up to exchange a few words with them.

Everyone wore a heavy expression, and Sienna Thornton realized that Ian Grant might not last much longer.

She went up to the second floor, relying on her memory from when she stayed with the Thorne Family to find Ian Grant’s room. The door was ajar, with Mina Thorne and Quentin Thorne keeping watch by the bed.

She knocked and entered, seeing Ian Grant lying on the bed, emaciated and skeletal. She was startled but didn’t show it and refrained from calling Quentin Thorne "Dad" in front of Ian Grant.

She silently walked over and kindly asked, "Are you feeling any better?"

Ian Grant had been lying with his eyes closed. Upon hearing her voice, he weakly lifted his eyelids and looked toward Mina Thorne, who was at the bedside: "You... please go out..."

Mina Thorne looked at Sienna Thornton with red, swollen eyes, blinked, and shed another two streams of tears.

Sienna Thornton felt a bit uncomfortable.

Quentin Thorne and Mina Thorne left the room. Once the door was closed, Ian Grant raised his weak hand and pointed to the chair beside the bed, saying, "Sit down."

Her voice had drastically changed; it was no longer the normal voice of a middle-aged woman, but rather sounded like a synthesized voice from a machine.

Because her face was so emaciated that only bones remained, her eyes appeared even larger.

As it turns out, before a person dies, everything changes. The only thing that doesn’t change is their gaze.

Feeling both fear and unease, Sienna Thornton sat down on the chair by the bed. She felt as if she was this close to death for the first time.

Ian Grant stared intensely at her and quickly began to speak, urgently, as if worried about passing away the next moment without being able to explain everything.

"I know that after I die, Thornton will definitely find someone else. No matter who he finds, I want to ask you to take good care of Mina."

As Ian Grant spoke, her large, fierce eyes filled with tears.

"Mina seems strong, but inside she is very insecure and fragile. This is all due to the poor relationship between me and Thornton, our unharmonious marriage, which has negatively impacted her. She really likes Seth Sutton, begged me in tears to agree, and if I didn’t agree, she said she would go with me. Thornton and I were afraid she’d do something foolish, so we both agreed, and the Sutton Family is already picking a date. But..."

At this point, Ian Grant began to cough violently.

Sienna Thornton hurried to pour her some water. Seeing a whole pack of straws next to the cup, she pulled one out and put it into the warm water, then held the cup to Ian Grant’s mouth.

Ian Grant weakly sipped a few mouthfuls, swallowed, and said, "Seth Sutton treats her just like Thornton treats me. I know my days are numbered, and the only thing I can’t let go of is my daughter..."

She started to sob, speaking through tears: "I’m afraid she will end up like me, struggling in a dark marriage all her life. I know you’re sharp-tongued and smart; if Mina and Seth really reach that point, please help to persuade them, find a way for them to live in harmony... If not, then help Mina get a divorce... I beg of you..."

As she spoke, she struggled to get up.

Sienna Thornton didn’t know what she was trying to do and quickly went to help her sit up. To her surprise, she cried, "I’m on my knees to you, begging you for the sake of our blood relation to take care of Mina..."

Sienna Thornton felt very conflicted. She didn’t think her identity allowed her to interfere in Mina Thorne’s marriage, and Mina didn’t seem like someone who would listen to her advice.

She sat back on the chair and looked at Ian Grant in a difficult position, "Mina also has other siblings, and they all care about her a lot. When I came up, I saw the four young Grant brothers sitting downstairs in the living room, keeping watch. They will take care of Mina."

Upon hearing that her siblings and nephew were keeping watch, Ian Grant smiled contentedly and said, "The four nephews must have followed my brother over. But what about when my brother is gone? What will happen to Mina? The cousins all have their own families; who will have time to care for her? But you’re different; you share a father with Mina. Even if Thornton isn’t around, you will still have to go visit Thornton’s grave together, right?"

Sienna Thornton had no response to that, and said heavily, "Alright, I promise you, rest assured."

Ian Grant finally felt at ease.

She fished out a red envelope from under her pillow and handed it to Sienna Thornton, then started to explain her plans regarding Mina Thorne’s marriage.

Sienna Thornton took out her phone to record Ian Grant’s will, asking her to declare on record that this recording could be considered her verbal will.

She knew that Mina Thorne would also have patent rights like Sienna Thornton as a dowry, and hoped that Sienna Thornton could handle some procedural details before Mina’s marriage to ensure the security of Mina’s personal assets before marriage.

Additionally, she hoped that before Mina got married, Sienna Thornton could oversee Quentin Thorne to ensure that the half of the assets originally belonging to the deceased wife would be given to their only daughter. Similarly, this part of the assets should also be secured as Mina Thorne’s personal property.

It seemed she anticipated that Mina Thorne and Seth Sutton’s marriage wouldn’t last long and insisted on securing Mina Thorne’s personal property against any intrusions.

Sienna Thornton listened quietly, feeling that Ian Grant probably lived her most clear-headed during these last days, finally realizing that marriages too needed timely loss mitigation.

After conveying all these concerns, Ian Grant became even weaker.

Sienna Thornton bid her farewell and left the room.

Mina Thorne returned to the room to continue accompanying Ian Grant, while Quentin Thorne had a few words with Sienna Thornton outside.

He merely asked her how Melinda Linton was doing, how her work was progressing, whether she was adjusting well to her new home, and explained why he hadn’t been able to visit them during this period.

Every word was one of genuine care and sincere apology.

Sienna Thornton initially didn’t quite understand him, but seeing Ian Grant in this state today, realizing that Quentin Thorne and his daughter had to take turns caring for her day and night, she suddenly understood it all.

After chatting with Quentin Thorne for a bit, she went downstairs and found Simon Forrester in conversation with Gage Grant in the dining area, while Zachary Grant and his other three sons sat in the living room.

The entire room was filled with a sense of sadness.

Seeing her come over, Zachary Grant gestured to her, "Director Thorne, come sit."

She glanced at Simon Forrester, who was deeply engaged in conversation with Gage Grant and didn’t notice her. So she directly went over to sit with Zachary Grant.

Zachary Grant said, "The past issues were all grudges of the older generation, nothing to do with Mina. I truly hope that you two sisters can support each other well."

Sienna Thornton thought, Mina Thorne must be aware of Ian Grant’s decision as well. She neither showed opposition nor did she react abnormally when she saw her earlier, which meant she agreed as well.

Realizing this, Sienna Thornton told Zachary Grant, "I will, you can all rest assured."
