Chapter 486: An assassin’s sixth sense
Chapter 486: An assassin’s sixth sense
"A-Aunt, it’s all alright-" Jia rushed behind her, panicked and heart pumping in her chest like she would pass out, but Yang Bingqing had already opened the wardrobe door. But to her disappointment yet again, Yang Bingqing found it empty. Only clothes. Not a full-assed grown man she had been expecting to see. She did take a thorough sweep inside though.
"Aunt...?" She cleared her throat.
"Oh yes dear!" She snapped out of her keen daze and looked through her clothes. "Yes, you definitely need a new collection!"
Her eyes widened. "No, no, Aunt! I have enough clothes I need."
She turned to her. "Well then, you should have more clothes. More never hurts~"
"But..."
"Will you not allow this old woman to dote on you? I only have an idiot and useless son."
All of a sudden, the thought of Yang Bingqing’s unborn daughter, the child who unfortunately couldn’t see the light of this world, crossed her mind and her back straightened at once. A son had his own place and so did a daughter. A daughter...which she could have had.
Without a second’s delay, Jia held her hands with a firm squeeze. "Well, I was restraining myself, but you are right. I do need new clothes. Let’s go shopping, Aunt."
Yang Bingqing blinked twice. Then her black orbs radiated with a brilliance that put the entire galaxy to shame. "Really!? That would be so wonderful! Yes, yes, we should definitely go shopping together! We will have so much fun! Oh, and we will eat outside too! Cheng is too stingy with outside food."
She gasped. "I know right? Mingshen is the same! I want a plate of fries, but he brings a plate of salad instead."
"I tell you these doctors are no fun at all," she harrumphed.
"Of course," she nodded with all seriousness.
"Perfect! So it’s decided!" She shone. "We will go shopping soon! Well, well, I won’t disturb you anymore. But are you sure...you are alright? You are definitely not having bad dreams right, dear? You can tell me if that’s the case. I will ditch Cheng and sleep with you! With me by your side, I will kill all the bad dreams before they reach you" Her nostrils flared. "Don’t underestimate my assassin skills~"
An overwhelming wave of mixed emotions flooded Jia’s chest. The hole that the lack of motherly love had left behind in her life was so deep that Yang Bingqing’s love filling up that very hole would dwell an ache in her chest that never settled. It wasn’t painful though. It was sweet, like the blossoming of the first flower in spring. Withering away the chill and loneliness from within her.
She smiled, holding back her mistiness. "Yes, yes. Aunt is awesome~"
"Hehe~~"
Yang Bingqing gave her one last tight hug and left. "You go back to rest! Don’t think about waking up anytime soon, okay?"
"I will rest a lot," she nodded.
Jia closed the door behind and breathed out softly and slowly. A minute later, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist and a head rested upon her shoulder.
"That was some nice thinking. Pulling me out of the wardrobe and stuffing behind the bathroom door while Mom was checking it. Then I slipped inside the bathroom as she left. Spicy, are you sure you are in the right field of work?" His breathy voice whispered in her ear.
Her eyes narrowed, and with her elbow, jabbed a bit on his chest, albeit with a soft landing that didn’t crush his ribs.
"I had my heart in my mouth the whole time. Aunt’s instincts are terrifying!"
He chuckled. "By the way, Spicy. I found something in your wardrobe."
He proceeded to show her her own bra as if it was some prize.
"..."
"Quite a sexy collection you have here. It was quite an interesting time hiding in your wardrobe."
Jia snatched it with lightning speed. "Were you rummaging in my closet!?"
"You are the one who stuffed me in there," he pouted. "Since you asked me to not breathe, I thought I should get a nice reward for myself."
The second elbow jab that reached his chest did in fact feel rib-crushing.
Mingshen squished his cheeks against hers. "So you will be going shopping with Mom. Where is my invitation?"
"You don’t have any," she snorted. "Just Aunt and me. And we will have fun. Lots of fun!"
He sneered. "Yeah, I heard that. Munching on fries and junk food at the first chance you will get."
She averted her gaze at that.
Mingshen stared at the subtle but distinct gleam in her eyes. A sparkle of a feathery light-headedness that lifted her spirits with joy. A gentle, hopeful smile on her lips as if she was flying in the sky.
He pressed his cheeks further. "I feel jealous."
"Of your own mother?"
"Feels like you are getting more impressed by her day by day than me."
"Uncle and Aunt had always impressed me from the beginning. It was you who were never in the list, hah."
He raised a brow, his lips tickling her ear. "And now?"
Every fine hair on her body stood upright, alarm bells ringing wide and blaring in her mind.
"Is the devil..." he placed his hand on the back of hers, tracing her arm upward. Slow, sensuous, teasing. "In that list now?"
The conversation with Huojin bounced in her mind back and forth. The out of the order sequence. A missed confession.
"...So-So," she willed herself to take things in that direction of a confession but failed miserably.
"Huh," he raised a brow. "Guess someone is lying. But I know juuuuust the way to make the truth spill out. Dr. Yang is very efficient in that~ Want to see, Spicy?"
—
"Cheng, Cheng, Cheng!" Yang Bingqing rushed to her husband’s, who had just finished with his meditation.
"Walk slowly, Bingqing," he frowned.
"No time for slowness!"
"Why are you so excited?"
"Hehe," she giggled. "Because I caught Jia and Mingshen together! Well not actually together. Mingshen was hiding in Jia’s wardrobe closet but somehow, he escaped while I was checking the bathroom."
"Why were you in Jia’s room?" He blinked.
"Oof long story! But the moral of the story is that there’s definitely cooking something between them! Her ironed clothes in the wardrobe were oddly messed up when I checked, like someone had been stuffed inside there. Mingshen was definitely hiding!"
"What is he doing so early morning in her room?"
"That’s what I am telling you! I think..." tears spilled her eyes. "I think my dream is finally coming true! My sixth sense is telling me they are finally, finallyyyyy dating!!!"
