Chapter 120 Aunt Moonflower
Chapter 120 Aunt Moonflower
"I think yet another man has fallen victim to your cruelty."
Lin Yuehua rolled her eyes at him, flopped onto the sofa, and started scrolling through her phone. Lin Ran leaned back on the sofa armrest. "Ready to start a new relationship? Or an online one?"
"Online dating my foot. I'm watching healing videos." Lin Yuehua turned her phone screen over to show Lin Ran. "My dear nephew, I've followed a treasure of a streamer. Xuexue the Great Demon King, Xuexue's idyllic life, it's so healing. I'm Xuexue's biggest fan!" Her eyes were shining as she said this.
Lin Ran glanced towards the stairs but didn't reply.
"Why hasn't Su Peixue updated yet? I need her videos to heal!" Lin Yuehua sighed and scrolled down a few more.
"It's only the start of the holiday. Su Peixue doesn't have time to film, and she hasn't thought of any good topics yet."
"How do you know? You're talking like you know Su Peixue."
"I know him."
Lin Yuehua rolled her eyes. "Heh, I know Xuexue too. It's just that Xuexue doesn't know me."
"Su Peixue knows me too."
Lin Yuehua slammed her phone on the sofa and sat up straight. She stared at Lin Ran for several seconds, making sure he wasn't joking. Then it suddenly occurred to her—Lin Ran studied at Lu University, and so did Su Peixue. "You met Su Peixue at school?" Her voice lowered, carrying the nervousness typical of a fan. "Do you have her contact information? Can I add Xuexue on WeChat?"
"You should ask her yourself later. If she's willing to add it, then add it."
Lin Yuehua silently stuffed her phone into her pocket. "That's easy for you to say. I'm not even on her friend list, how am I supposed to ask?"
"She's upstairs using the restroom. I'll ask her when we eat together later."
Lin Yuehua burst into laughter, laughing so hard she almost fell over. "Nephew, are you trying to cheer me up because I'm heartbroken?" Before her laughter could subside, footsteps echoed down the stairs. Su Peixue came down from the second floor. She wore a light beige down jacket and a cream-colored scarf, her hair loose over her shoulders, her cheeks slightly flushed pink from the cold air outside.
Lin Yuehua's laughter abruptly stopped. She sprang up from the sofa, mouth agape, pointing at Su Peixue, then at Lin Ran, before twirling in the air a few times, completely frozen in place. Then she let out a scream: "Ahhh—Su Peixue! The living Xuexue!!" The sound echoed throughout the courtyard. Grandma Lin in the kitchen peeked out, glanced at her, and then shrank back inside. Startled by the scream, Su Peixue took a step back, instinctively hiding behind Lin Ran, grabbing his clothes from behind with both hands.
"Who is the zookeeper?"
"Call her Aunt Yuehua."
Su Peixue gave an "oh" and peeked half her head out from behind Lin Ran, obediently calling out, "Aunt Yuehua."
Lin Yuehua felt so happy she was almost dizzy. She steadied herself by holding onto the back of the sofa, one hand pressed against her chest. Her favorite blogger wasn't just in her own home?
Her mind raced, piecing together all the information she'd gathered—Lin Ran had just said he knew Su Peixue, Su Peixue had just called him "keeper," and Su Peixue had come down from the second floor of her house. She gasped sharply and screamed a second time. "Su Peixue—is Xiao Ran's nephew's girlfriend?!" Then she screamed a third time.
The rest of the family was drawn over by her screams. After Lin Yuehua's excited and incoherent introduction, everyone realized how popular Su Peixue was online.
"Xuexue is so amazing." Xu Wanru smiled but didn't reply; she already knew that.
"Lin Ran took the good photos." Su Peixue sat down next to Lin Ran and took her chopsticks off the bowl.
Lin Yuehua took out her phone and took a picture with Su Peixue. Su Peixue stood next to her, giving a slight smile to the camera.
Lin Yuehua posted the photo on her WeChat Moments with only four words in the caption: "My Xuexue." Within minutes of posting, the number of likes began to skyrocket, while the comment section was filled with question marks.
Her WeChat message list started popping up with red dots one after another, with many people asking, "Is this Su Peixue herself?" "Do you know Su Peixue?" What surprised her most was a message from someone whose contact name was "Guo Yulun's boss": "Yuehua, is this Su Peixue? She's actually a family member?" Lin Yuehua quickly replied yes. Guo Yulun then called her directly.
Guo Yulun is a leading figure in the town and is currently trying to find ways to promote it. Although their town is remote, it has excellent scenery, backed by a whole mountain of persimmon trees. In winter, the persimmon trees covering the mountains are laden with orange-red persimmons, which are the main local agricultural products, but they have never gained widespread recognition.
Guo Yulun asked on the phone if he could invite Su Peixue to help film a promotional video. Lin Yuehua said she would ask. Guo Yulun paused, his tone becoming more serious: "I'll personally bring Xiao Zhang from the Culture and Tourism Department to your house so he can talk to Su Peixue in person. I think Xiao Zhang is from your village." Lin Yuehua agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Yuehua told Lin Ran and Su Peixue about Guo Yulun's visit. The family was quite surprised—Guo Yulun was a high-ranking leader in the town, usually very busy with work, and for him to personally come to talk to a college student about making a video was quite a big deal.
Lin Ran and Su Peixue were both used to it. They sat on the sofa and discussed for a while. It had been a long time since they'd made a video. The local specialty was persimmons, and the scenery of this southern town was quite beautiful, with persimmon trees covering the hillsides. The persimmon industry was also a major agricultural product. So, they decided to film persimmon cakes.
Watching the two huddle together discussing, Lin Ran quickly sketched out various details and storyboards on paper. Only then did Lin Yuehua realize how much preparation was required to shoot what seemed like a simple video. "My nephew is so amazing!" she thought.
After dinner, people in the countryside love to chat with each other. Several long benches were set up outside the Lin family's courtyard. Grandpa Lin sat on one of the benches, shelling peanuts, while several neighbors gathered around him.
The Zhang family from next door also arrived—their son, Zhang Qiming, had just passed the civil service exam and landed a job in the local cultural and tourism department. Ever since the results came out, the Zhang family had been talking about it constantly. Zhang Qiming's father, Zhang Dehou, was also in the courtyard, sitting opposite Old Master Lin, his voice booming: "My Qiming is working for Boss Guo Yulun now, and the boss values him highly. Last time we went to a meeting in the county, the boss specifically asked to take him along. I heard that today the boss is personally taking him to handle an important matter!"
Grandpa Lin shelled peanuts, smiling but saying nothing. Zhang Dehou spoke a few more words, and just as he was getting into the conversation, a black sedan drove up on the village road. The car stopped in front of the Lin family's courtyard, the driver's side door opened, and Zhang Qiming got out first. Zhang Dehou's face immediately lit up.
