Chapter 55 Tough Battle
Chapter 55 Tough Battle
To Lin Chen's surprise, the English captain's lips curled up slightly.
"Heh heh heh... You really think that just because you've become the Investigation Bureau's dog, we won't dare touch you?"
Captain England swung his shield, which roared and clanged.
"We're not taking you on because you're unimportant. After all, it won't be long before the Investigation Bureau is no match for us..."
"You just blurted out the secret to my face like that?" Lin Chen said in a low voice. "Was your next sentence: 'You're not going to get out of here alive anyway?'"
The English captain's lips twitched slightly.
"You think I'm joking..." Captain England gestured, "Left-handed, get to work!"
As soon as he finished speaking, accompanied by a spatial tremor, doors appeared out of thin air on the walls of the archives.
Fully armed mercenaries from the Foundation emerged from the door and quickly surrounded Lin Chen and Jiang Zhengge from different directions.
The spotlight shone on everyone, and the director stood beside the camera, adjusting the lens.
Captain England straightened up, struck a righteous pose, and pointed at Lin Chen:
"How dare you? You evil anomalous entities, you can mimic the appearance of a Division Investigator, does that mean you've already eaten them? Oh no... You fooking evil... Pisces... of... Shit! I will avenge them, for the justice!"
He shouted a slogan in a mix of Chinese and English and waved his hand forcefully.
"Take them!"
The Foundation mercenaries began to surround Lin Chen and Jiang Zhengge, the two standing back to back.
"Section Chief Jiang, do you have any other ideas?" Lin Chen asked softly.
"The second department's reinforcements will be here soon," Jiang Zhengge muttered. "Maybe I should just go all out with them, but I'll need to rest for ten days to two weeks afterward..."
Jiang Zhengge's spiritual awareness seems to involve manipulating the wind and currents; Lin Chen can imagine how powerful the effect would be if this ability were fully unleashed.
But judging from Jiang Zhengge's words, the price will be considerable.
"There's no need."
Lin Chen shook his head and took out his phone.
"I have an idea."
"What new ideas do you have?" Jiang Zhengge asked warily.
"Call for backup."
After he finished speaking, he unlocked the phone screen with his fingerprint.
Upon seeing this, the English captain burst into laughter:
"Hahaha, using your phone to call people in the archives? You fool!"
He naturally assumed that Lin Chen was unaware of the "archiver's" mechanism and was waiting to see Lin Chen stripped of his human skin.
Lin Chen didn't blame him.
Not everyone has an abnormal entity as a close friend.
"boom--"
As the wind howled, the "archivist" noticed Lin Chen's actions of "obtaining information" and came to his side.
Then, under everyone's gaze, it bowed to Lin Chen.
"Yes, that was the map clearing order I placed."
Amidst the horrified gazes of everyone (including Jiang Zhengge), Lin Chen grabbed the "archiver's" black paw and shook hands with it.
Then, he turned his phone screen to show the nearest Foundation mercenary:
"Could you read this for me?"
The phone screen displayed a memo app with the words "Bye Bye" written on it.
The next second, accompanied by howling wind, the "archivist" snapped the mercenary's neck and peeled him into a human skin book at a speed invisible to the naked eye.
Then, it turned to look at the Foundation mercenaries and crew members standing to the side.
"Fire!" the director shouted.
Lin Chen and Jiang Zhengge immediately ran to the nearby file shelf. At the same time, accompanied by the sounds of gunfire, howling wind, and screams, the scene turned into a complete mess.
"I'm going to find Lucy," Jiang Zhengge whispered to Lin Chen. "Once I find her, we'll retreat first."
"Okay, I'll keep an eye on things." Lin Chen nodded.
"Watch your step, damn it... this young man..."
Jiang Zhengge muttered to himself as he disappeared among the file shelves.
Lin Chen peeked out from behind the filing shelf and looked at the scene outside.
He saw the "archivist" constantly teleporting through the crowd, the sound of necks breaking echoing everywhere, and a book about himself falling to the ground.
Captain England relentlessly chased after the "archivist," hoping to beat him up in exchange for some exciting material. However, the entity completely ignored him, simply teleporting away on its own, and Captain England couldn't keep up with its speed.
"..."
Lin Chen looked towards the back of the set; the entire film crew was retreating. The director frantically pulled out a walkie-talkie-like device, tapped it twice, and shouted:
"The Ideal State, open the gates!"
Then, a door opened in front of him, its frame shimmering with a greyish-white light.
Lin Chen knew that this door led to the city in the abyss of subspace, and it was the same door as the one in the school incident.
The director named that city "Utopia".
Lin silently memorized the information. He shoved the shotgun's cylinder aside, loaded a single armor-piercing round into the firing position, then bent down slightly and circled around the edge of the area towards the film crew behind him.
Once he was close enough, Lin Chen grabbed his shotgun and shouted:
"Don't move!"
He wanted to snatch the door-opening device from the director!
"......!"
The director heard Lin Chen shout, turned to look at Lin Chen, and looked terrified.
From this distance, Lin Chen finally saw the face clearly and recognized him almost immediately:
That's the director of the movie "Turning the Tide," starring Qingtian! Left Shrimp!
Because the name was so strange, even though Lin Chen didn't pay much attention to the film industry, he still remembered it among the directors.
If I remember correctly, he was quite famous, and his box office results were good...
So, it turns out he was actually the director of the foundation's filming crew?
Seeing that he was frozen in place, Zuo Xia prepared to rush through the door.
Seeing this, Lin Chen aimed at his leg and pulled the trigger—
"Bang!"
"clang!"
A shield blocked Lin Chen's bullet—it was Captain England.
The demigod charged toward Lin Chen, roaring as he raised his shield: clearly he had given up on pursuing the physical body and instead intended to start with Lin Chen.
Lin Chen was prepared for this.
He held up his phone and showed the English captain the "Bye Bye" message on his notes.
"call----"
Amidst the howling wind, Captain England's arm was grabbed by the "archivist".
He subconsciously disregarded the physical object and simply flung it away in an attempt to break free.
Then Lin Chen heard the sound of bones breaking:
"Aaaaaaah!"
The English captain screamed as his shield fell to the ground.
By this time, the director had already disappeared behind the door. Lin Chen knew he couldn't catch up, so he aimed directly at the English captain's knee:
"Bang!"
The single-pronged armor-piercing round whistled through the air, striking the British captain squarely in the knee, causing a burst of blood.
"Aaaaaah! Fuck!"
The English captain knelt on one knee, raised his head, and his eyes gleamed with a deep blue light:
"You fucking..."
"Damp clothes." Lin Chen pressed the earpiece.
"boom----"
Li Zhanyi, who had been concealed since the very beginning of the encounter, pulled the trigger. The .338 "Whale Cry" bullet refracted a dark blue trajectory as it passed through the air, creating an ethereal echo resembling the cry of a whale.
Then, the bullet struck Captain England precisely in the chest.
"Pfft!"
The eerie blue light pierced right through Captain England, and Lin Chen saw a hole appear in the demigod's heart that allowed him to see the scenery behind him.
He swayed twice and then fell to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
