Chapter 42 Gnosticism
Chapter 42 Gnosticism
Early the next morning, Lin Chen took Huihui to the Investigation Bureau Affiliated Middle School to inquire about enrollment.
After all, I stood Huihui up yesterday afternoon, and it's not good for the little girl to stay at home every day.
Going to school and making friends will be better for her mental health.
The school environment is very good; compared to other schools in the Xiwang District, it is quite superior.
Lin Chen couldn't help but admire the Investigation Bureau's capabilities: with its affiliated residential area and school, it had practically become a small town.
Having money is one thing, but thinking about it carefully, such comprehensive ancillary facilities are quite necessary.
If the child of a high-ranking member of the Investigation Bureau gets arrested while studying away from home, that would be a real problem.
"..."
With the introduction of Section Chief Jiang via a short message, Lin Chen brought Huihui to the principal's office.
As soon as he entered, he saw a familiar face.
"teacher?"
The principal behind the desk had a band-aid on his face and bandages wrapped around his wrists, as if he had just returned from the ruins of subspace.
No, he just came back from the warp ruins—isn't he the teacher we rescued from the ruins yesterday?
Are you the principal?
"Comrade investigator?"
The principal noticed that Lin Chen's face also froze for a moment before he stood up and hurried over to him.
"Oh, hello, hello! Section Chief Jiang told me he'd help arrange school enrollment for the new family members, but I never expected it to be you..."
To be honest, Lin Chen was quite unaccustomed to being treated so kindly by a principal who could "divide people into different classes at a glance based on their scores."
He scratched his head and gave an awkward laugh:
"Ah... I didn't expect it either, what happened to you yesterday..."
"I happened to be attending a meeting there, and I ended up being taken hostage..." the principal said with a wry smile. "It's actually quite embarrassing, really. If it weren't for you..."
Seeing that the principal was about to tell Huihui about what happened in the subspace ruins, Lin Chen blinked quickly and tried his best to use every muscle in his face to give a hint.
Fortunately, the principal was clearly a smart man; he understood Lin Chen's meaning and immediately brought the situation to a halt with a laugh.
"Hahahaha...right? Hahahaha..."
"Hahahaha...yes, yes..." Lin Chen laughed along with him.
"Hahahaha..."
The two laughed for a while, and then the matter was settled.
Lin Chen encountered virtually no obstacles throughout the entire process. The principal enthusiastically guided him in filling out the documents, asked Huihui a few questions, and then stamped the document.
"He Huihui, I've assigned you to Class 1. I'll be teaching history in this class," the principal winked at Huihui. "Shall I take you there and introduce you to the other students?"
"Hmm." Huihui nodded with some concern.
She looked up at Lin Chen, received an encouraging look, and then followed the principal.
"..."
Watching the two figures gradually disappear into the distance, Lin Chen breathed a sigh of relief.
To be honest, this was Huihui's first time returning to group living in such a long time, and Lin Chen was still a little worried.
But he was very reassured by the principal: in a life-or-death situation, he would risk his life to protect the students, like a warrior who would never back down.
The principal chosen by the Investigation Bureau will not be a coward.
After chatting with Huihui's homeroom teacher for a few minutes, Lin Chen left the school and rode his electric bike to the headquarters of the Investigation Bureau to clock in for work.
He had arranged to meet with Professor Jürgen today, partly to brush up on his knowledge, and partly to see how much the things he had brought out yesterday were worth.
Hmm... it feels like the search and crackdown has ended...
"bite..."
The elevator doors opened, and the floor number on the display screen changed to B4.
Lin Chen stepped out of the elevator and found himself in a silver-white corridor, surrounded by the roar of machinery.
He walked down the corridor, looking through the glass windows into the laboratory, watching researchers in white coats discussing and conducting experiments beside different instruments.
He soon found Professor Jürgen in a laboratory.
"You're here?"
Seeing Lin Chen enter, Jürgen waved with a smile:
"Just go wash your hands over there. This lab is used to clean up subspace contamination, so the hygiene standards aren't that strict."
Lin Chen nodded, washed his hands, and then walked to the lab bench.
On the lab table, he saw the crystal he had picked up yesterday: it was floating inside a dome, with mechanical tentacles around it shooting lasers through the dome, creating faint blue ripples on the crystal's surface.
"It's almost done. You're lucky; this azure crystal is really pure."
"How much can this sell for?" Lin Chen couldn't help but ask.
"It varies from 3000 to 5000, mainly depending on the final amount extracted," Professor Jürgen smiled. "With the equipment in our lab, we can guarantee around 4000."
A single stone costs 4000...
The background music for shipping out goods started playing in Lin Chen's mind.
Seeing his somewhat dazed look, Professor Jürgen smiled faintly:
"My suggestion is to supply it directly to the Logistics Department of the Investigation Bureau and let them process it. You can just use the money to buy the finished Blue Factor. It's not reliable to have them do the manufacturing; those guys always like to incur some losses and pocket the profits themselves..."
"Okay, I understand." Lin Chen nodded quickly.
"Let's get back to the main topic."
Jürgen gestured for Lin Chen to sit down on the stool, then picked up his thermos, twisted it open, and took a sip.
"Section Chief Jiang gave me a brief overview of your situation, and I now have a general understanding of it."
"Your psionic spectrum is 'unknown,' and you may not understand what that means, so let me explain it to you in a simple and easy-to-understand way."
"Go ahead and I'm listening." Lin Chen took out his phone and started recording.
Jürgen cleared his throat and began to explain in a gentle, conversational tone:
"The concept of gnomon can be traced back to human history. The witches of medieval Europe, the immortals of ancient China, the genius artists of the Renaissance, and even those famous generals who could fight against a hundred men, most of those who could etch their names on the monument of history were gnomon awakeners."
"It is actually quite difficult to give a specific definition to gnosis. It can be a superhuman ability, a body with unlimited potential, or a mind with superb computing power. But no matter which angle you look at it from, they all have the same characteristic."
Jürgen adjusted his glasses, his smile kind.
"Power beyond the ordinary."
"The priests of Nemi used witchcraft to pray for rain, the Copenhagen School used their intellect to expand the boundaries of physics... Throughout history, there have been countless examples of qualities that transcend the ordinary. They manifested in different ways, but their extraordinary qualities all originated from the same source."
Throughout history, humanity's pursuit of the extraordinary has never ceased. Through different practices, they have arrived at different conclusions, but ultimately, they have fallen far short of the truth.
"It wasn't until modern times that we finally found the source of the extraordinary."
"I believe you can guess that the source of the extraordinary is..."
Jürgen turned his head, and following his gaze, Lin Chen saw the dark blue crystal.
"Azure matter."
