Chapter 145 Still a Family
Chapter 145 Still a Family
Zhou Wanyi blushed and subconsciously touched her collar.
I then realized that the top button of my pajamas was undone, revealing a small patch of my collarbone.
She was in a bit of a rush and just threw on this nightgown. She quickly turned around to button it up.
Yu Heng didn't say anything more, turned around and left the kitchen.
He sat down on the sofa, leaned back, and closed his eyes.
I'm a little sleepy. I got up early this morning and didn't sleep well on the way.
Zhou Wanyi stood in the kitchen for a while longer, pursed her lips, and then rinsed the last bowl clean.
Yu Heng leaned back on the sofa and fell asleep with his eyes closed.
Zhou Wanyi sat down on a chair at the dining table, picked up her phone, unlocked it, and then turned it off.
I don't know what to do.
My gaze unconsciously drifted back to the sofa.
Yu Heng turned his face to the side, breathing very lightly.
Zhou Wanyi looked away and stared at her fingers; it was time to trim her nails.
But when she remembered what Yu Heng had just said, her face flushed again; his words about cutting nails meant something else entirely.
He doesn't look much like his brother; his brother has a larger frame.
Yu Heng was even thinner, and his eyebrows and eyes were even more defined.
I remember the first time I met him, he was just starting junior high school.
I was a complete child back then, but I'm not a child anymore.
He went to college and was much taller than her.
Zhou Wanyi took a deep breath, stood up, and walked to the balcony.
The sky outside the window was overcast and gray, as if it were about to rain.
She leaned against the window and stared blankly for a while.
Until the sound of a child whimpering came from the bedroom.
Zhou Wanyi snapped out of her daze and quickly walked into the bedroom.
Xiao Hui woke up, her eyes open, her little hands reaching out and grabbing at the air.
She bent down and picked up the child. Xiao Hui snuggled against her and grabbed her collar with his little hands.
Zhou Wanyi sat down on the edge of the bed, lifted her clothes, and the child took the baby in his mouth and began to suckle.
She looked down at the little one in her arms, and the jumbled thoughts in her mind slowly subsided.
But for some reason, I had a strange feeling when the baby was nursing today.
After a while, Yu Heng opened his eyes in the living room, sat up, and rubbed his neck.
I glanced at the time; it was almost two o'clock.
Liu Jianfen was sitting on the sofa folding clothes when Yu Heng turned his head and said, "Mom, I'm going out for a bit."
"Where are you going again?" Liu Jianfen looked up when she heard this.
"I'm going out to buy something," Yu Heng said as he got up, walked to the door, and bent down to put on his shoes.
"What should I buy?" Liu Jianfen put down the clothes she was holding. "Is there anything we need at home?"
"I don't need anything," Yu Heng said without further explanation, opening the door. "I'll be back in a bit."
The door closed, and Liu Jianfen frowned.
Yu Heng hailed a taxi and headed straight for Tianyang Plaza.
There weren't many people in the supermarket. He pushed a shopping cart and first went around the health products section, picking up each product and reading the instructions.
Liu Jianfen is getting older, and in recent years she has often complained of back pain, leg pain, and high blood pressure.
Many of the illnesses that elderly people have are not really illnesses. As long as they eat well, drink well, and take good care of themselves, they can live comfortably into their eighties or nineties even with minor ailments.
He picked out a few items and put them in his shopping cart. As he walked to the checkout counter and waited in line, he suddenly remembered Zhou Wanyi.
He paused, pushed the shopping cart aside, and turned to walk back.
Yu Heng wasn't very familiar with these products for women. He stood in front of the skincare shelf for a long time, then decided to buy the most expensive ones.
When it's time to pay, the cashier scans the code, and the machine beeps.
Finally, I swiped my card; it cost over five thousand.
When Yu Heng returned, he was carrying things inside when Liu Jianfen was pacing around the living room with Xiao Hui in her arms.
"What did you buy?" Liu Jianfen glanced at the bag.
"I bought you some supplements." Yu Heng placed the bag on the coffee table. "Remember to take them every day; they're good for your health."
Liu Jianfen frowned as she looked at the boxes, large and small: "Where did you get the money?"
"I made money from it," Yu Heng smiled. "Didn't I say I was starting a business? Would I lie to you?"
"How much do you earn in a month and you spend it like this?" Liu Jianfen was still worried.
"It's enough for me anyway." Yu Heng didn't specify the amount. "Don't worry about it, I'll buy it for you, just eat it."
Zhou Wanyi came out of the bedroom and glanced at the pile of things on the coffee table.
"Sister-in-law," Yu Heng called out, pushing the skincare set towards her, "This is for you."
Zhou Wanyi was stunned: "For me?"
"Hmm." Yu Heng took out the lipstick again. "I'm not sure if the shade is right, but you can try it."
Zhou Wanyi didn't take it: "I don't want it, you can keep it to give to your classmate."
"Why would I give this to a classmate?" Yu Heng stood up and shoved the gift into her hands. "I bought it for you."
Zhou Wanyi looked down at the items on the coffee table. She recognized the brand, but she had never been willing to buy it.
"It's too expensive..." she said softly.
"Since I've already bought it," Yu Heng said with a smile, "you can keep it."
"Okay, thanks." Zhou Wanyi pursed her lips, took the skincare products, and returned to her bedroom.
She closed the door, walked to the dressing table, and placed the new set in her hand next to her nearly empty bottle.
She picked up the lipstick, twisted it open, and glanced at it; the color was perfect for everyday wear.
She looked in the mirror and gently applied a little to her lips.
Her complexion improved immediately. Staring at her face in the mirror, she suddenly remembered the scene that she had been caught in the morning.
She quickly grabbed a tissue and wiped off the lipstick.
In the living room, Liu Jianfen lowered her voice and asked Yu Heng, "Why did you buy such an expensive thing for your sister-in-law?"
"What's wrong?" Yu Heng asked casually, watching TV.
"What do you mean, 'what's wrong'?" Liu Jianfen glared at him. "That's your sister-in-law."
"What's wrong with your sister-in-law?" Yu Heng turned his head. "My brother's gone, shouldn't we be nicer to her?"
Liu Jianfen was speechless. She stared at Yu Heng for a few seconds.
"It's right to be nice to your sister-in-law, but you need to be careful about what you say," Liu Jianfen muttered.
After she finished speaking, she sat back down on the sofa and continued folding clothes.
Suddenly, she remembered overhearing her colleagues chatting about how a relative in their hometown had lost their eldest son, but his wife had married the second son, and the family continued to live together as usual.
Wanyi is only twenty-six years old. We can't really let her remain a widow for the rest of her life, can we?
But what will happen to Xiaohui if she really remarries and leaves?
I would definitely be reluctant to let her take the child away.
Moreover, it's harder to find another partner when you have a child.
If we don't let her take the child with her, she, as a mother, will also be reluctant to leave.
And if we don't take him with us, wouldn't Xiaohui become a child without a father or mother?
But Yu Heng... Liu Jianfen's movements as she folded clothes slowed down.
This kid is only twenty after the New Year, isn't he a bit too young?
Thinking of this, she glanced at Yu Heng again.
This kid, he suddenly bought such an expensive thing for his sister-in-law today, does he have some ulterior motive?
But there's also Yue Ling, whom she likes quite a bit.
Liu Jianfen narrowed her eyes. This matter depends on what the young man thinks; there's no point in her thinking about it.
She glanced at her son, then looked around the room.
Anyway, if that day ever comes...
We can get things done after Yu Heng graduates; we can get the certificate later.
"How much can you actually earn in a month from that live stream you're talking about?" Liu Jianfen suddenly spoke up again, "Don't make any wild guesses."
"It's enough." Yu Heng's eyes were glued to the TV. "It's better than going to work anyway."
"Better than working a regular job?" Liu Jianfen stopped what she was doing. "You're still a student; your main focus should be studying!"
"I know, I know what I'm doing," Yu Heng replied perfunctorily.
