Chapter 136 I've liked you since high school
Chapter 136 I've liked you since high school
On Friday night, the school auditorium was already packed with people.
The welcome party has begun.
Yu Heng stood backstage, wearing the clothes Shen Yueling had prepared for him.
"Yu Heng, you're next!" A student from the Arts Department ran over to announce. "Is the microphone ready?"
"I've tried it," Yu Heng said.
He walked to the side of the curtain and glanced at the audience.
School leaders sat in the front row, and students from various departments sat behind them.
He saw Shen Yueling sitting in the design school area, near the aisle.
She saw him too, their eyes met, and she nodded slightly.
Ning Yutong was sitting on the music department side, talking to the girl next to her, when she suddenly turned her head and looked in his direction.
Yu Heng looked away and heard the host announce: "...Next, please enjoy the song 'Mojito' performed by Yu Heng, a freshman in the Department of Internet and New Media."
Applause rang out as Yu Heng walked onto the stage.
He walked to the microphone stand with his guitar slung over his shoulder and adjusted the height.
Then he began to play, and Yu Heng took a breath and began to sing:
"Please give my lover a Mojito."
I love reading her eyes when she's slightly tipsy.
I don't need too much sugar in my coffee.
The world is already too sweet because of her.
His voice was steady, and his rhythm was accurate.
Everyone is wondering why they haven't heard this song before, since it's quite nice.
When the second verse was being sung, the side curtain moved, and a girl rushed out.
She ran very fast, rushed straight to Yu Heng, and snatched the microphone from the stand.
Yu Heng paused for a moment, his hand still holding the microphone.
The music is still playing, but no one is singing anymore.
"Zhang Yuchen!" the girl shouted into the microphone, her voice booming throughout the auditorium through the speakers, "Zhang Yuchen, you bastard!"
The audience erupted in uproar.
"You fucking cheated on me! You lied to my feelings and got me laid! And then you told me we weren't a good match!" The girl's voice trembled with tears. "And I was stupid enough to believe you!"
Yu Heng frowned and took half a step back.
What's going on?
Students from the Arts and Literature Department ran up from the side, trying to pull the girl down.
The girl clung tightly to the microphone, refusing to let go: "Don't touch me! I want things to get straight to the point today!"
Another girl rushed up from below the stage.
"Liu Wenwen?" The first girl was stunned when she saw her.
"Li Suli?" The second girl was also stunned.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds.
"You also talked to Zhang Yuchen?" Li Suli asked.
"He's pursuing you too?" Liu Wenwen asked.
The two nodded at the same time.
The audience erupted in uproar.
"Holy crap, the vice president of the comics department?"
"Zhang Yuchen? The one who looks decent enough?"
"Wow, that's awesome, flirting with two at the same time?"
Li Suli frowned: "When did you get together with him?"
"Last month," Liu Wenwen said, "he said he broke up with his ex-girlfriend and was single for a while."
"Bullshit!" Li Suli cursed. "He told me the same thing last month!"
When the two compared the timelines, they discovered that Zhang Yuchen was not only dating both of them at the same time, but also dating other girls in between.
"And Wang Linlin!" Li Suli suddenly remembered, "Wang Linlin from the Fine Arts Department! I've seen them eating together!"
"And Chen Xi!" Liu Wenwen said, "Chen Xi from the Student Union's Publicity Department!"
The audience was in complete chaos; some were swearing, some were cursing, and some were taking pictures with their phones.
Several teachers quickly went up on stage and persuaded the two girls to step off the stage.
"Hey kid, let's talk this out. Come down here first..."
"No!" Li Suli struggled. "Today I'm going to show everyone what kind of person he is!"
Zhang Yuchen sat in the comics department area, his face ashen.
His classmates were all looking at him with complicated expressions. Yu Heng stood in the corner of the stage, watching this farce. He found it somewhat amusing.
This is way more exciting than his show.
Yu Heng glanced at the audience. Shen Yueling was still sitting there, her expression unchanged, except for a slight frown.
He walked off the stage and went backstage.
"Holy crap, your show..." Hao Junran leaned closer, "Wow, that's amazing, you even have people supporting you?"
"That's really impressive," Yu Heng said, pursing his lips. "I also saw this show live once."
"That Zhang Yuchen is a real bastard," Wang Shuo said. "He's flirting with so many people at the same time, isn't he afraid of getting tired?"
"Maybe he's in better health," Yu Heng thought to himself, adding that he wouldn't join in the cursing. He had several people like that too, but he was open and fair.
The party was paused for twenty minutes. The teachers took the two girls away, and Zhang Yuchen was also called to the office.
The host stepped in to salvage the situation, said a few polite words, and then announced the next program.
Yu Heng returned to the audience and sat down in the empty seat next to Shen Yueling.
"How are the clothes?" Shen Yueling asked.
"It fits perfectly," Yu Heng said.
"I specially altered the size after buying it," Shen Yueling said.
Yu Heng smiled and said, "Thanks."
Ning Yutong slipped over from the side and squatted down next to Yu Heng's chair: "Yu Heng, you sang so well just now."
"He didn't finish singing," Yu Heng said.
"That's good too," Ning Yutong said, her eyes shining. "It's just that things got messed up..."
"It doesn't matter," Yu Heng said.
Singing was secondary; he originally wanted to take the opportunity to promote Starlight Entertainment, but this mess ruined that.
Ning Yutong pursed her lips: "This Zhang Yuchen is really mean, how could he bully people like this?"
Yu Hengqian chuckled twice but didn't say anything.
He was about to say that he had to go back first when Ning Yutong continued, "Yu Heng, I prepared a birthday present for you."
She lifted the bag in her hand a little.
"I also have something I want to say to you," Ning Yutong said softly, looking at him. "Can we go outside for a bit?"
He subconsciously looked at Shen Yueling, whose gaze also fell on the bag. Her face was expressionless as she looked at Yu Heng and nodded slightly.
"Okay," Yu Heng stood up, "Let's go for a walk outside."
Ning Yutong stood up, and the two of them walked through the side door of the auditorium one after the other into the corridor outside.
The two walked to the small garden behind the teaching building, where there were few people at night.
The streetlights cast long shadows.
Ning Yutong stopped under a sycamore tree.
"This is fine," she said.
Yu Heng also stopped and turned around to face her.
Ning Yutong handed over the bag: "Happy birthday."
Yu Heng took the bag, glanced inside, and saw a carefully wrapped box: "Shall we open it now?"
"Okay." Ning Yutong nodded. "Do you like it?"
Yu Heng took the box out and unwrapped the packaging.
Inside was a watch, and below it was a scarf.
The dial is dark blue, somewhat like the starry sky.
Yu Heng picked it up and looked at it. He didn't recognize the brand, but the workmanship was quite exquisite.
"Do you like it?" Ning Yutong asked, her voice a little nervous.
"I like it," Yu Heng said. "Thank you."
He put the watch on his left wrist; the strap was a little loose, so he adjusted the clasp.
Ning Yutong watched his movements and pursed her lips: "And the scarf, it's my first time knitting it, it's a bit ugly."
"It's okay, it's just to keep warm, it looks quite nice," Yu Heng said, taking out the scarf and wrapping it around his neck. "You said you had something to say earlier?"
Ning Yutong took a breath, her fingers clutching the hem of her coat.
"Yu Heng," she began, her voice trembling slightly, "I've liked you since high school."
