Chapter 367 - 316: I’ll Fight You All!
Chapter 367 - 316: I’ll Fight You All!
"Brother Su is really something, he even understands tanks with a bit of tinkering."
"It’s got to be my Brother Su, he’s awesome, really awesome."
In front of people from Bridge Town, Lu Yubo and the others spared no effort in flattering Zhang Su. Praising their own leader is their responsibility.
In reality, Meng Changwei and the others weren’t in the mood to listen to what they were saying. Watching the tank move leisurely in the base, they were incredibly envious.
"Boss, there’s another tank over there. Can’t we try to negotiate something with Master Zhang in exchange for it?"
Someone suggested to Meng Changwei.
"That one is definitely broken; Zhang Su hasn’t glanced at it the whole time." Meng Changwei curled his lips. In the post-apocalypse, everyone was good at reading the room.
"Could it be? Maybe they only had enough fuel for one tank to be driven back?"
"Alright, whatever the case, ask them later. Whoa, that turn is amazing, impressive."
While they discussed, they admired Zhang Su’s increasingly smooth driving of the tank in the camp, gradually picking up speed.
Many people busy in the warehouse were drawn outside by the rumbling sound to watch the spectacle.
"Oh, oh, oh. My hubby turned into a beta, go, go!"
Zheng Xinyu clapped her hands with a bright smile.
"Damn, just park this at the mountain gate, and who wouldn’t be dazed?"
Zhao Dezhu was so excited he got a runny nose.
"This is just too strong..." Su Xiaoya, who was preparing her gear by the wall, paused to watch the scene unfold, her feelings of fear and disgust fading considerably as the steel behemoth rolled over a pile of corpses.
Zhang Su was focused inside the tank, observing the road conditions through the narrow window. He couldn’t hear the discussions from the crowd, nor did he know that Qi Xiaoshuai was being chased and blocked by a group of people!
Five kilometers east of the camp, Qi Xiaoshuai slammed the brakes and skidded his van, turning from the highway onto a self-built road leading to a village. Through the windshield, his expression seemed tense, his eyes not only on the road ahead but constantly checking the rear-view mirror, clearly afraid of something following him.
Just as the van turned onto the self-built road, within ten seconds, an SUV appeared behind, followed closely by a pickup. From the looks of it, they were obviously more stable than Qi Xiaoshuai’s van, not necessarily because the drivers were better, but maybe because their mindset was more steady!
"Damn, these bastards just won’t quit!"
Seeing the vehicles tailing him, Qi Xiaoshuai squeezed a few words through gritted teeth, tightly gripping the steering wheel, flooring the gas pedal on the narrow path, fearing he might accidentally fall into the roadside ditch.
After leaving the camp, he initially headed east along the road since people from Bridge Town were in charge yesterday; hence, he wasn’t clear on the exact location of the zombie horde, only having a vague direction.
However, due to the sheer number of zombies, there were still traces to be found on the road. He quickly located the horde near a rubber product factory, but the poor visibility made it impossible to determine if there were any Venom Zombies.
He had no intention of going back without intel, so he continued searching for new zombies.
The desolate landscape, open roads, and adequate lighting made the search not too difficult. Within about ten minutes, Qi Xiaoshuai found a large vehicle park teeming with zombies.
Compared to the enclosed rubber factory, the view at the vehicle park was quite good. Qi Xiaoshuai carefully drove around outside, trying to spot any signs of Venom Zombies, but instead got spotted by a group arriving from the east.
Upon contact, they asked if Qi Xiaoshuai was from the Cyan Dragon Corps. After getting a negative response, they didn’t waste words, demanding he leave everything and walk away.
Qi Xiaoshuai was sitting in his van, the road ahead blocked but he wasn’t intimidated. Cursing them silently, he put it in reverse and floored it, the van shot backwards, effortlessly escaping the blockade.
Unfortunately, he had barely celebrated for five minutes before the vehicles from the opposite direction caught up. The way back to the camp was blocked, forcing him to head further southeast.
His first instinct was to call for help, but when he picked up the radio, he discovered the battery was too low to send a signal more than a few kilometers away!
The cold weather quickly drained the radio battery.
This realization made his heart skip a beat, but his pursuers weren’t giving him any breathing room, relentlessly on his tail.
Qi Xiaoshuai, more used to e-scooters, wasn’t very familiar with cars. Though driving wasn’t a problem in normal times, in a comparison, he came up short. The three pursuing vehicles smoothly surrounded him.
In the first encounter, he unexpectedly reversed to break through the siege; in the second, he charged forward, forcing them to give way; this time, he’s not sure what will happen.
The SUV and pickup in pursuit made Qi Xiaoshuai very uneasy, especially since the Camry was nowhere to be seen; from previous experiences, it was likely up to no good.
As he contemplated, the Camry appeared, slowly blocking the end of the road ahead.
It was clear the pursuers not only drove better but were more familiar with the area, enabling them to organize the blockade.
The Camry steadied to block the already narrow four-to-five-meter-wide concrete road completely, making it clear he couldn’t pass.
Before, they didn’t dare block because the van had occupants and might get into an accident, but now both passengers had stepped aside, ready to see a good show.
"Damn it!"
Qi Xiaoshuai gritted his teeth, intending to do what he had done before, that strength produces miracles, but when he saw the two men standing by the car with weapons in their hands, his heart sank, realizing there was no way to escape this time.
Although one had a regular handgun and the other a submachine gun, their combined firepower wasn’t as strong as his rifle, but there were two more cars behind, two fists can’t fight four hands!
"If Brother Su faced such a situation, what would he do... Damn it, why am I so unlucky."
Qi Xiaoshuai was puzzled, wanting to stop but unwilling, yet scared to barge ahead, fearing they might shoot him dead, or...fight back with guns?
During his pondering, the car subconsciously slowed down and eventually had to stop about ten meters in front of the Camry.
Screech.
Several screeching brakes sounded as the van stopped, followed by the dog and pickup halting behind, five men jumped out one after another, two carrying guns, the other three holding homemade iron spears and fire axes.
From their weapons and equipment, it was clear they lacked sufficient firearms compared to the Celestial Horse Island team, but it posed enough of a threat to Qi Xiaoshuai!
"Get out! I’m only saying this once!"
The submachine gun man from Camry raised his gun and tilted his head at Qi Xiaoshuai, wearing a satisfied grin of finally catching the prey after a prolonged hunt.
Breathing heavily in the car, Qi Xiaoshuai felt worse facing human enemies, even more hateful than facing zombies!
Should he get out?
Getting out would surely mean a dead end, and he might be humiliated before dying, but staying in?
Staying in definitely isn’t a solution, dragging won’t help.
"I’ll fight you all, damn it!"
The more he thought, the angrier he became, Qi Xiaoshuai roared, grabbing the rifle on the passenger seat with his right hand, and opened fire through the windshield.
Ratatat, ratatat.
Bang...the front windshield shattered under the impact of bullets, the recoil hit his shoulder, making the van’s seat shake furiously.
Unfortunately, training usually worked when shooting zombies but was less effective against humans, especially with his current emotional turmoil...
The burst rounds caught them off guard but didn’t cause substantial harm, though it did have a deterrent effect.
The arrogant submachine gun man stooped forward, hiding behind the Camry, while the handgun man, sensing trouble, quickly dove into a nearby ditch, scared with a pale face.
"Let me go, we all stay safe, or it’ll be destruction for both of us!"
Seeing them hide, Qi Xiaoshuai stopped shooting and shouted loudly.
However, he received no response from them.
Instead, zombies attracted by gunfire started to move toward the four cars, waddling, and making eerie noises.
The zombies’ threat wasn’t significant at this moment; the danger from humans was more pressing!
Ratatat.
Seeing no response, Qi Xiaoshuai fired several more shots toward the submachine gun man’s hiding spot, the powerful kinetic energy of the bullets impacting the car body, penetrating the fragile steel plate but couldn’t penetrate multiple layers, ultimately in vain.
With no reaction from the front, Qi Xiaoshuai focused on the rear, but when he checked the rearview mirror, cold sweat instantly emerged on his back, as the five figures were gone!
Before he could make sense of the situation, he heard an engine roar.
The dog suddenly accelerated, crashing into the rear of the van, with the driver seemingly ducking low to avoid shooting!
Bam!
Before Qi Xiaoshuai could take effective defense, the car was hit diagonally by the dog, the van without handbrake control rolled forward, and his rifle was knocked out of his hand by the impact, hitting the roof then bouncing to the back seat...
If the car just continued straight, crashing into the Camry, Qi Xiaoshuai felt he still had a chance to fight, but unfortunately, the dog’s impact angle was very tricky, and the van slid into the roadside ditch.
Bang!
A drop of about one meter and various lacking protective measures in the van made Qi Xiaoshuai feel dizzy and see stars.
"Ah...damn it..."
In a dazed state, time flow feels abnormal, Qi Xiaoshuai thought he hadn’t fainted for two seconds before someone opened the car door, then he was rudely dragged outside, initially restrained by the seat belt until someone unbuckled it, allowing him to be smoothly pulled out of the car.
