Chapter 163: First Winners
Chapter 163: First Winners
With the first round concluded, the next round should be between Leena, Kris or Olivia, but with three people competing, it would be quite difficult to create a fair competition since one person would compete one more time than the others.
I was thinking that they should draw lots or come up with another way to make this fair until Kris lifted a finger.
"Mortal God! I just had a great idea! Let’s make this a three versus one against you!"
I blinked at him in surprise.
Really? They want to do this to decide the winner? How would you even determine the winner from this?
They aren’t going to tell me that they have to beat me to win right?
And if I remember correctly, there’s supposed to be two rooms up for grabs since Olivia also put hers on the line for this.
That’s why I thought that someone would have to fight twice since the loser of the first bout would probably have to fight against the last person for the second room.
But if Kris was going to suggest that...
Olivia immediately jumped at the chance to fight me again, "I don’t mind, my Lord! Let’s have a three way!!"
... The fact that she was the one who said it... That came out sounding a little more lewd than I think she meant it to sound.
But ignoring that, Olivia was definitely locked in on wanting this fight to happen now after that suggestion had been brought up so I doubt I could dissuade her without her being disappointed.
And I would feel quite bad about seeing her disappointed so I might as well just go with it anyway.
Besides... I kind of want to test out how my new abilities would hold up against human sized opponents too.
Not that any of them were of average human size to begin with but that’s besides the point.
Leena doesn’t seem like she particularly minds either way but I guess she could see that a majority of them already want this to happen so there was no point in her trying to stop it anyway.
Thus, the centauress was just standing there and keeping silent.
I shrugged and stepped forward, making both of my floating hands mimic the action of cracking their knuckles even though they had no knuckles to crack.
"Let’s do it then. But how do you decide who wins?"
Kris raised a finger, "Let’s do it like this! We’ll keep on fighting until one of us manages to land a clean hit on you, Mortal God! That would be the first winner! Then the second winner would be the last one standing between the two! What do you think, Mortal God?!"
I looked at the other two participants to see if they had any comments but none of them raised any protests.
I nodded, "That’s fine. Whenever you guys are ready then."
I settled into a stance and lowered both of my floating arms above me to clench their fists as well, indicating I was ready to fight.
The three of them also got to their own positions to get ready to start the fight, all of them making sure to stand a short distance away from each other to avoid getting in each other’s way.
I designated Ava as the one to start the duel and she raised her staff to shoot a fireball into the air, making it explode to signal the start of the fight.
The moment I heard the sound of the explosion, I slammed down one of my floating hands and opened up its palm, creating a shield in front of me.
No sooner did I do that, the sound of gunshots came from Leena’s direction and several bullets struck against my improvised shield, all of them bouncing off harmlessly against it.
Kris had leapt up into the air while Olivia charged towards me, her body sparking with electricity.
I left my improvised shield in front of me to protect me from Leena’s bullets, using three arms to engage with Olivia and Kris.
The red Oni reached me first, her intimidating form clad with lightning as she stopped short of me to punch out a bolt of lightning at me.
I charged up my own lightning and punched it out as well, letting my lightning bolt crash into Olivia’s and cancelling each other out.
I noticed Leena running to the side and I only just managed to move my stationary hand to place it between us before she fired a quick burst of bullets at me that was blocked by my floating hand.
Kris then came crashing down towards me from the air, the catboy swinging his greatsword down in an overhead slash towards me.
In response, I swung my other floating hand towards him and slapped him away, the poor guy rolling through the air from the impact and he would have crashed into the wall had he not changed his gravity to slow himself down.
Well... Even if he did crash into the wall, he would have been fine anyway.
Olivia jumped at me and I had to take a moment to move my floating hand to block Leena’s bullets once more before I could pay attention to the red Oni.
Seeing that I could counter her lightning bolts with my own, she must have decided that moving closer to have a fistfight would give her a better chance of landing a hit so I got ready to face her.
Both of us punched out our fists at the same time, our knuckles colliding with a loud bang in the middle.
Unfortunately for me, Olivia was fighting me seriously this time so she was using her full strength, which I was obviously inferior as compared to her as I ended up getting flung back from the punch.
I dug in my heels and used my floating hands to steady myself, which also doubled as a shield as even more bullets were fired at me only for it to deflect off its surface.
I had no time to rest as Kris came flying down towards me again and I had to raise one of my floating hands to protect myself, his greatsword slamming into my armoured hand with a loud bang.
But instead of stopping, Kris’s figure suddenly sped past my hand and flew towards me with blinding speed.
I only realised that he had let go of his greatsword the moment it hit my hand when he was right in front of me.
I didn’t have time to protect myself before he headbutted my chest, sending the both of us tumbling onto the ground and causing us to roll a short distance away.
We ended up laying on the ground with Kris straddling my waist, the catboy’s eyes spinning from the dizziness of rolling around.
He shook his head to recover and he looked down at me before throwing his hands up to cheer, "Yeeeess!! First room is mine!!"
Well... I suppose he did hit me with his head so that kind of counts? I’m honestly surprised he managed to do it though it was at the expense of using himself as an improvised projectile.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at his efforts as it really was amusing how he had planned for this to happen.
Not to discount his efforts but I was actually half sure that Leena might be the first one to get the room since I was expecting myself to be distracted by Kris and Olivia fighting me at close range which would have led to me failing to keep her in check and allow her to get a shot at me while I was distracted.
Well, now I only need to worry about Olivia and Leena and the rules of this challenge has changed where they now only have one ’life’ and would be disqualified if they ’die’.
I turned to Olivia and Leena, expecting both of them to be rushing towards me to try and secure the last room for themselves.
But instead... I found Olivia leaping towards Leena who was trying to get away from the red Oni but it was in vain as she punched a lightning bolt towards the centauress that struck her in the side and sent her flying towards the wall.
Ah... The rule was that they just had to be the last one standing... But they never specified that I was the only one that could eliminate them.
Thus... Olivia went ahead to go and eliminate Leena herself to make herself the last one standing between the two of them.
Honestly, I just saw it as a win that she didn’t continue the fight with me because I would surely be fighting for my life if that was the case. And I’m not even confident of winning without being really serious so it would be best if we did this without an audience present.
Well... I guess we have our two winners?
