Chapter 405 - 398: She Helped Push Herself into the Fire Pit
"Luckily, out of all the photos of girls presented to him, Ewan Stratton chose our Sarah. This is our good fortune. Evan, this is a golden opportunity to build ties with the Linden Family.
Once Autumn marries Seth Quinn and Sarah marries Ewan Stratton, will the Shelby Family ever have to worry about business again?
Besides, Autumn already humbled herself and asked to get back with Seth Quinn for the family’s sake. As another daughter of the Shelby family, shouldn’t Sarah do something for us too? And let’s look on the bright side.
What if Sarah marries him and makes Ewan Stratton happy? He might even be able to stand again. Then, Sarah would be the Stratton family’s greatest benefactor, and the Shelby family’s status would rise with theirs."
Yvette Zimmerman’s words tempted Evan Shelby. Even though Ewan Stratton was disabled, the connection between the Stratton and Linden families was undeniable. How could he not be moved?
He asked hesitantly, "So... we’re going with Ewan Stratton?"
"Yes, Evan, don’t you worry," Yvette Zimmerman’s smile grew even brighter. "Mrs. Linden said that when Sarah marries into the family, the Strattons absolutely won’t mistreat her, and the Linden family will, of course, lend the Shelbys their full support."
"Since you’ve agreed, I’ll go talk to Mrs. Linden right away to finalize the wedding arrangements. She mentioned there’s an auspicious day for a wedding in two months, so we still have a lot of details to sort out."
"In two months? That’s so soon!"
"So what if it’s soon? This will give Sarah something to do. And if she’s busy, she won’t have the time to help Clara Grant sabotage Autumn’s reunion with Seth Quinn. Weren’t you just worrying about that?
If we let that girl Sarah stay idle any longer, I can’t guarantee what she might do. If she really ruins things between Autumn and Seth Quinn, wouldn’t all our efforts have been for nothing?"
At this, Evan Shelby seemed to make up his mind. He nodded firmly. "Fine. You handle it."
"Alright, I’ll go arrange a meeting with Mrs. Linden then." Yvette Zimmerman flashed a triumphant smile and turned to leave.
’After the fuss Sarah caused, I thought I’d have to do a lot more convincing. I didn’t expect it to be this easy.’
’The Strattons and Lindens may be in-laws, but there’s still a degree of separation. It can’t compare to the superior status Autumn will gain by marrying Seth Quinn directly.’
’So I won’t have to worry about Sarah lording it over Autumn in the future.’
’Heh. That stupid girl probably has no idea she just helped push herself into the fire.’
...
「Later that evening, at the Grant family residence.」
When Cedric Grant pushed the door open, Chloe Grant and Jean Jarvis were excitedly whispering about something. The moment they saw him, they both fell silent.
Cedric Grant knew things between Clara Grant and Seth Quinn were settled. He was in high spirits, thinking that his position as Seth Quinn’s father-in-law was now a done deal.
Seeing them quiet down, he joked lightheartedly, "What’s wrong? Were you two talking bad about me? Why else would you stop the second I walked in?"
"Heh, of course not. You’re imagining things." Jean Jarvis forced a laugh and quickly changed the subject. "You must be tired. Do you want to change before dinner?"
Cedric Grant didn’t think much of it. "I already ate out," he said as he headed upstairs. "I’m just going to go up and change."
"I’ll come up and get your clothes for you," Jean Jarvis said, following him.
Once in the bedroom, Jean Jarvis laid out his clothes and began to help Cedric Grant unbutton his shirt. As they stood close, she suddenly caught a faint, yet strangely familiar, scent on him.
