Book 2: Chapter 26
Book 2: Chapter 26
By the time I entered the castle, I could feel different eyes as people stared at me and talked ill of me openly, making it obvious to me that I was the one they were talking about, but I kept quiet and still. It reminded me of the serene pack and how the girls openly mocked me whenever I was passing by them. I just wanted to return to my room and think of a way that I could get out of this mess.
"Princess Addison," Miriam called my name. I knew what was coming next. They had been quiet since we left the garden, and I knew they were also curious to know the truth.
"Yes" I answered.
"Can I ask you a question? It might be insensitive, but I'm just curious. " She said, I inhaled a deep breath, but before I could answer her, Evelyn had responded.
"If your question is insensitive, then don't ask." Evelyn shunned Miriam, I was surprised because she was usually the dumb one.
"I was just curious," Miriam defended.
"Then think of how that question would have made her feel rather than wanting to satisfy your curiosity. You're seriously going to let a random person's word affect you? Then how are you going to sustain your loyalty to the princess who is saving our entire kingdom? " Evelyn added, completely shunning Miriam whilst defending me. I couldn't believe these words were coming out of her mouth. She even called Skye a random person. It was bold, new, and strange, but I liked it.
"I'm sorry, your highness. I'll be more careful." Miriam apologised with a bow.
At this point, I can only pray that I don't make them hate me after finding out the truth about me and the truth about my pregnancy, which I know will be a huge issue soon.
I wasn't wrong. I was met with the king's personal guard almost immediately.
"Your highness," he said, smiling and making a small bow. I returned his gestures.
"I hope I have met you in a good circumstance because the royal highnesses wants you to be present in the throne room an hour before dinner," he announced as my heart skipped a beat.
"Oh," I responded, having suddenly lost my words.
"I'll be leaving now," he said, giving me another bow before walking away, leaving me in my disorganised mind. The king and queen must have heard of the rumours, and I would be challenged tonight. If they found out that I was truly pregnant, then I would be gone. I need to do something about it immediately.
"You can go to your rooms now. I'll meet you later, "I said to the girls. They both excused me and left for their rooms, while I instantly went to Simon's room, banging on his door like my life depended on it. Technically, it did.
"Please open the door." I begged. I continued to knock on his door, ignoring the fact that it was a hard wood and my hands were bruising. I needed him to speak with me this instant, even though he had been keeping his distance. This wasn't a time for him to ignore me; I desperately needed him.
I don't know why I couldn't bring myself to meet Holland and ask him for help since we happened to be closer than before. He should be able to help me, but I wasn't sure if I was ready to tell him the truth about everything. I knew if I was to ask for help from them, they would need a full explanation and the truth, and I was willing to risk it all and tell Simon, but I wasn't too sure about Holland.
"Simon please, open the damn door!" I pleaded, but was brought out of my crazy acts by his voice. He was in the hallway coming towards his room alongside Skye. His fingers were intertwined with hers. They were both staring at me like I had lost my mind.
"What are you doing?" Simon asked, I couldn't tell him anything, not with Skye by his side, and at this point, I was having doubts. What if Simon really changed and would only listen to Skye, who obviously hated me now?
"Probably looking for sympathy," Skye said, with her eyes fixed on me.
"Oh, I forgot to mention to you that she's pregnant and has been hiding it from us all," Skye said with no kindness in her tone but rather hatred as she stared at me without shifting her gaze.
"What are you saying?" Simon asked her.
"That she's pregnant..." She replied, but before she could finish her words, Simon had shunned her.
"Stop spreading rumours, Skye. Of what good will it be to you?" Simon asked, removing his hands from hers, and I could see the confusion on her face.
"Ask her yourself, I'm not lying." She defended herself.
"So it was you who started this rumour? I expected more from you," Simon said, leaving her dumbfounded. He left her side and took a glance at me before holding my wrist and dragging me into his room.
"You're seriously going to take her side here?" I could hear Skye yelling at the top of her lungs, but her voice cracked in the middle of her sentence, and I realised that she was hurt.
I now understand the reason why Skye has been acting strange to me. It was because she and Simon had something going on between them and she thought that I was getting in their way. I don't know if what they did was right considering the fact that they were siblings nevertheless and had the same father, but I felt bad being in between whatever was going on with them. I shouldn't be causing problems and making enemies. I needed as much help as possible.
On getting into his room, he locked the door behind me and was standing right in front of me with nothing less than two inches away from me. I could feel his warm breath on my face.
"What's going on?" He asked. This was it. I was about to reveal all of my secrets to him without knowing if he held any grudges against Alaric or me. I was going to reveal the secret that I kept to myself for months of being away from Alaric. I wasn't sure if I still wanted to do it, but I knew that I would have to do it to save myself for now.
"I know you have probably heard it, but..." I said, releasing a breath that I didn't know that I was holding as I fumbled my fingers against each other. I don't know why it was so hard to tell him.
"Okay..." he said, urging me to continue with my words.
"I... I am pregnant," I stuttered, my eyes squinting.
"Okay," he casually responded. I was shocked and definitely wasn't expecting his response. I waited a while for him to ask me who the father of my child was, but he didn't ask. I was perplexed, confused and lost for words to describe my current feelings.
"I need your help," I added. I was feeling awkward with the way things were between us. Did Simon really change that fast, and why did he suddenly switch up on me? I understand the case with Skye, but I don't understand why Simon would do that to me.
"What do you want me to do?" He asked, his voice plain. I couldn't do this anymore. He's not the right person to talk to at a time like this, and I regret my decision. I should never have come to meet him.
"Nothing, I'm sorry for bothering you," I said, turning my back on him as I exited the room, but the moment my foot touched the tiles outside his room, he drew me back. His hands were firmly wrapped around my waist, and our faces were only inches apart.
With his other hand, he closed the door and locked it once more without breaking contact with my eyes. His eyes slowly darted away and moved to my lips, where he froze for some seconds before bringing his eyes back to mine.
"What is it that you want me to do? Lenora" Simon said, as my eyes widened in disbelief and terror. Did I just hear him correctly or was my mind playing tricks with me? Did he just call me Lenora? How did he know who I am?
"Wha... what?" I stammered, trying to find my words, but nothing seemed to be in order.
I tried to release myself from his grip, but the more I struggled with him, the tighter his grip on my waist became, and the closer I got to our lips touching,
"Answer me," he ordered, but his voice was soft. I was completely lost at this point as I stared at him without any words managing to come out of my mouth.
"Do you need me to bring the words out of your mouth?" He asked. I don't know what he meant by this, but I could see his face coming closer to mine and his lips grazing their way around my cheeks, almost touching my lips. Why was I not moving away from his grip? Was I going to give in and let him kiss me? And why the hell does he want to kiss me after ignoring me for days?
"Simon," I said, tenderly and mildly, motioning for him to release me from his grip.
"How long have you known?" I asked, the moment he let go of me.
"Does it matter?"
"Yes it does. Is that why you have been ignoring me? " I asked. I wasn't sure of why I changed the topic. I should be asking him for help. Why should I still care about the fact that he was ignoring me? I should be worried about the fact that he knew who I was and not about the fact that he might have been ignoring me because of it.
I should focus on what was really important, but deep down, I wanted to know the true reason why he had been avoiding me. I was going to be in the presence of the king and queen in some hours' time, but what mattered to me most at this point was to know why he left me after building a close relationship with me and after making me trust him this much.
Suddenly, all that mattered to me wasn't the royals finding out about the pregnancy, it wasn't about them returning me back to Edessa, it wasn't about me being killed there or finding it close to impossible to escape from there, it wasn't about any of these, but rather it was about the man right in front of me.
"No," he replied, bringing his hands back to mine, holding my hands and softly caressing them.
"Then why?" I asked again.
This time, he was quiet with his head bowed, seeming like he was thinking of a response to give me, but he didn't say anything. I was too impatient and couldn't afford to be kept waiting. I wanted to know the reason why he had been ignoring me and why he would want to kiss me after avoiding me for days. We were close, and all of a sudden, he ditched me. Why did he do that? Did he not realise how much he had kept me worrying?
"Answer me," I yelled, tears building up in my eyes and threatening to fall. I don't understand why I was feeling this way and was letting him affect my emotions. Why do I care about him ignoring me so much and why did I feel a tinge of hurt when I saw him and Skye earlier?
"I fucking want you so bad, Lenora, but you fucking belong to someone else," he answered with frustration in his voice, making me go numb.
