Mated To The Devil's Son

Book 2: Chapter 14

Book 2: Chapter 14

"Mother, Mother!" The tiny voice of a little girl called as my eyes opened to the blinding rays of sunlight that were coming from the balcony. It took me a while to process where I was, as I had slept in a completely new place.

Groaning and stretching, I stood up from the huge bed and walked towards the balcony to take in the morning sight of the Kingdom of Latvera.

"Mother, wait for me!" The little girl cried again as I spotted a girl in a pink dress and a white hat running towards a tall, noble woman who happened to be stretching out her arms to her daughter. The moment she held her mother's hands, she threw her arms around her mother's legs as a smile appeared on my face. Soon, I will experience this with my child.

Latvera seemed like a peaceful pack as people freely walked around with smiles on their faces, but then I remembered that not all of them in the pack were nice, as last night's incident resurfaced to me.

The sight of the King's claws digging into Simon's body and his ignorant brother made me flinch in pity, but I do hope that Simon is in better shape now.

Everything happened so soon and it was hard for a person to comprehend them all, but one thing that I was appreciative of was the fact that I got to know a lot about the royal family in only one night. I should have it easy with them before I leave, and hopefully no incident will occur in the future before I leave here.

"Princess Addison," Miriam's voice called out to me, followed by a knock on the door. They must have been worried about not finding me in their room after waking up, and it was already noon.

"Do you think she's in her room?" I heard Evelyn ask Miriam with concern in her voice, and for some reason, it made me smile, as I came to realise that she just had a very sweet heart.

"Good morning Evelyn," I said from my room as I walked towards the huge doors of the room, but a frown was quick to appear on my face on getting to the door.

"Why did they have to make this door so heavy?" I protested to myself as I worried that I wouldn't be able to get out of the room without Simon's help.

"Is that you, Princess Addison?" Evelyn asked, as she must have heard me coming close to the door.

"Yes, it's me," I answered, and immediately heard a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, I was so worried," Evelyn sighed, and I smiled; it's nice to know that someone new cares so much about me, but I doubt she'd still love me if she knew my mate was the source of their kingdom's problems.

"Can we come in?" Miriam asked.

"Yes, but I can't open the door."

"I'll open it," Evelyn blurted, as my smile faded to a frustrated sigh as I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"No you can't, you didn't succeed with it yesterday."

"That was because I was drained from the journey. I'm pretty strong. " She said, but as I was about to protest and make her understand the reason why she couldn't open the door, the door suddenly swinged open.

"What the hell?" I gasped, my eyes wide open in awe and confusion. How was she able to open the door?

She had a proud expression on her face as both she and Miriam walked into the room, while I was still confused.

After they had both entered the room, I closed the door behind them, and it was easy to move and wasn't as hard as before. I proceeded to open the door again, and I didn't break a sweat before it opened. Was I also stressed from yesterday's journey?

"The weather is beautiful today, don't you think, your highness?" Miriam complimented, but her suspicious smile and constant side eye at Evelyn made me suspect something was up.

"What is it that you want?" I asked with my arms folded under my small breasts.

"Well, we were just hoping that you would like to take a walk with us and see the beauty of Latvera in this very beautiful weather," Miriam added, as I smirked.

"Alright, I'll have my bath first," I said before walking into the bathroom. Back in the Serene pack, I was always treated as different and never really had people that looked up to me around me. It was giving me some sort of responsibility as an older sister, and I was enjoying every bit of it. I'll be the older sister I never had.

After the bath, we both walked out of the room and I found myself looking at Simon's room as the door was shut and I was worried about him. I do hope he was fine.

The girls and I decided to check just a section of the castle as it was too huge to check out in a single day, so we chose the gardens with beautiful birds, fountains, flowers, and an amazing atmosphere. I was captivated and didn't wish to continue to walk, so I suggested that we sit on the pink grass on the floor and relax for a while.

"I really miss Addison," Evelyn said, as sadness filled her aura. Her eyes were also teary, as if she was trying to hold back tears. For a while, I contemplated whether or not to include myself in the discussion, but seeing her this sad and not lively hit a spot in me. Also, if I wanted to be a big sister to them, then I might as well share their emotions.

"What makes you say so?" I asked as she brought her knees to her chest and buried her head in her mint green gown. She was in tears and didn't want me to see her cry.

"It used to be the three of us, and every afternoon, we would sit on the purple grass beside the fountain while sharing some stolen snacks from the kitchen," Miriam answered.

"Is that why you made us come to the garden here?" I asked.

"We're sorry to have done that to you, but we just wanted to feel her presence one more time." Evelyn responded by raising her head to look at me with her face red from crying.

"You know what? Why don't we also come here every 2 afternoons? " I suggested, as that was the least I could do to compensate for what Alaric had taken away from them.

"Really?" they both asked in unison, with their eyes filled with hope. It pains me to see how devastated they were, and I wonder how many families Alaric would have caused this pain to, but then again, he was the devil's son and was meant to be ruthless to survive.

"Yes, really," I answered as their faces beamed in joy before they both wrapped their arms around me in a tight hug. It's been ages since I was hugged out of love and I embraced the feeling in hopes that nothing ruined this moment.

"Hey, I want hugs too," a voice said from behind us, as we all screamed in fear before realising that it was Skye and she had appeared absolutely out of nowhere.

"Wow, you scared us," I said with an awkward smile as I made sure to pay attention to her face in hopes that she had not overheard our conversation, but the look on her face said otherwise, as I was a bit relieved.

"Sorry, I just wanted a hug too." She chuckled as she wrapped her arms around my neck, and I revelled in my awkwardness. I had no idea how to feel about her as they all had their own issues in the family, but so far, she seemed like a nice, blunt person.

"I see, you've also fallen in love with the garden," she said as I nodded before she joined us on the ground and sat beside me.

"This is also my favourite place in the castle," she added.

"It's beautiful," I answered, as it was followed by some silence before she decided to break the silence.

"About my brother, Holland," she said while cracking the bones in her knuckles, and I realised she was nervous about what she was about to say.

"What about him?" I asked as she exhaled a deep breath.

"He's a really nice person, I promise you. He's just having that phase of his life where he thinks everyone is against him and he seems to be forgetting that there are sacrifices he needs to make as the future King."

"I promise he's gentle," she added, as I didn't know when I burst out in laughter.

"What's funny?"

"Oh nothing, just that the gentle man attempted to smack my face last night," I said as her mouth opened in shock.

"Oh my goddess, I am so sorry. Are you okay?" she asked.

"Definitely, Simon was quick to stop him," I said, and watched how her cheeks flushed as she bit her bottom lip in an attempt to hold back her excitement.

"He's a gentleman."

"Yes, he is," I added as me and the girls watched how she fumbled with her hands at the sound of Simon's name, and Miriam was quick to give Evelyn that side eye.

"However, Holland is also a gentleman, and he just needs time to figure things out, but I promise you that he won't do anything irrational anymore," she said, after she was delivered from her trance with Simon.

"I hope so," I responded as she leaned in for a hug with me before extending her arms to Miriam and Evelyn.

"We should do this often, don't you think?" She said as we all nodded in agreement.

We all spent the rest of our day chatting, laughing, eating some cookies, and drinking stolen wine in adequate proportions, as we wouldn't want to be drunk for dinner. When it was finally time for the family dinner, a servant approached us and shared the information with us.

I wanted to go back to my room to change my outfit, but Skye had mentioned that the black gown suited me and I shouldn't change it, so I listened to her and we both walked to the dining room while Miriam and Evelyn went back to their rooms.

On getting to the dining room, I realised that Skye and I were late as everyone else was seated, including Simon, and he looked way better than he did when he fought with Holland. He looked almost like nothing had happened to him.

"I'm glad you two are getting to know each other better, but let's not be late for dinner, as a hungry man is an angry man." The Queen said, with her eyes darting towards the king and his sons.

"We apologise," Skye said as we both walked to the table. She sat beside Simon and gestured for me to sit next to Holland, but there was no way that I was going to do that, so I also sat beside Simon while the queen and Holland were directly opposite us.

The servants served our food, and my mouth couldn't help but drool over the appetising pasta, fried beef, and some vegetables, even though I don't like leaves. I'm a wolf, not a goat.

"Are you enjoying your door?" Simon asked while we were eating, and the whole table's attention fell on us.

I was confused for some time before realising that he must have done something to the door to allow easy access, and there I was with the girls, thinking we had become stronger. It was nice of him to have considered me and adjusted the door to my taste, but it was more impressive that he did it without me knowing that my door was being tampered with.

"Thank you," I said with a smile before taking another bite of the juicy beef and focusing on my food.

"I've accepted the proposal, and I'll marry Princess Addison next Saturday," Holland said, as the silence on the table became louder.
