Chapter 80 Grown Up
Chapter 80 Grown Up
Over the weekend, Lü Zhizhe returned to his family's large villa on Jiangxinzhou Island.
I usually rent a house near the school, and I've been living a dissolute and unrestrained life for too long. I need to take some time to go home, visit my family, and have a meal.
As soon as the outer gate opened, a yellow mongrel rushed over, barking softly as a warning.
Lu Zhizhe snorted and kicked him lightly, cursing, "You stupid dog, don't you recognize me?"
Thinking about it, it seems like I haven't been here for a while, so I can't entirely blame Wangcai.
Wangcai's system was restarted by this light kick, and now it recognized who had entered.
The warning bark instantly turned into affectionate woofing, and the dog wagged its tail happily and began rubbing against his trouser leg.
Lu Zhizhe squatted down and patted his head, and Wangcai began to lick his hand eagerly, which made Lu Zhizhe laugh out loud: "Old lickspittle."
At that moment, the inner door was pushed open, and a woman walked out; it was his mother, Dong Fang.
Dong Fang's tone was reproachful, but her face was full of doting smiles: "You didn't even tell me you were coming back sooner. If I had known, I would have asked the aunt to prepare a few more dishes."
Lu Zhizhe stood up and waved his hand dismissively: "Whether the food is good or not doesn't matter, what matters is who I eat with."
Just like before, whenever we eat together as a family, even if it's just a plate of vegetables, it's considered a feast.
The woman chuckled: "You little rascal, you're all talk. Could you really handle eating simple food like this?"
Lu Zhizhe walked around the house, upstairs and downstairs, but couldn't find anyone. He asked, "Mom, where's Dad?"
Dong Fang's voice came from the sofa: "Just like you. Whether you want to eat at home or not, you won't say unless asked. I guess you're out entertaining your boss. We can eat without waiting for you."
"oh."
After finishing his meal, Lü Zhizhe threw down his chopsticks and went upstairs without a word, which Dong Fang had become accustomed to.
But a short while later, Lü Zhizhe came downstairs again, his camera slung across his chest, and said seemingly casually, "Mom, how about we go for a walk together? Perfect timing, let's take Wangcai out for a stroll."
Dong Fang was taken aback, then nodded.
…………
Lu Zhizhe followed Dong Fang and walked all the way to the community park. They walked quietly for a short while before Wangcai started panting heavily. Wangcai was an old dog, and it was time for him to come out and relieve himself.
Lu Zhizhe casually picked up his camera and captured the scene of Wangcai defecating in the lens.
Dong Fang, watching from the side, found it amusing: "You're filming this too?"
"Hmm," Lu Zhizhe said nostalgically, "Mom, do you remember? I do. When our family used to live in a rented room next to the construction site, Wangcai was just a tiny little thing lying at my feet."
Back then, you were cooking in the construction site canteen.
Wangcai wasn't a particularly valuable breed; he was just an ordinary Chinese rural dog. One day, he wandered onto a construction site and was still a tiny puppy. Lü Zhizhe saw him on his way to the canteen at the construction site and decided to keep him. Otherwise, if he had grown up, the workers would have caught him to improve their meals.
Speaking of the past, Dong Fang's memory was immediately pulled back to that time, and she sighed, "Yes, back then you couldn't do your homework too late, or the battery would run out."
"Yeah, I still have to get up early to finish my homework," Lü Zhizhe echoed.
"Oh, I don't remember you getting up early this morning to do your homework. Did you go to school early to copy homework?" Dong Fang laughed.
"Absolutely not." Lü Zhizhe quickly denied it, but those days when his already meager allowance was further strained by copying homework were truly unforgettable.
"Wow, in the blink of an eye, who would have thought we'd be living in a villa?" Dong Fang exclaimed.
"Think back to when your dad brought those brothers to the city to work. At first, they just wanted to make a living. But unexpectedly, your dad was able to solve problems for his boss. Along the way, the company has been established."
As the sun began to set and Dong Fang looked up to recall the past, her once black hair turned to snow by evening, and strands of silver hair caught Lü Zhizhe's eye.
"Mom, you have gray hair now." Lü Zhizhe hadn't really looked at his family closely in a long time.
"You call me Mom now, how can I not be old?" Dong Fang laughed.
"Alright, little sister, you're still got it. You and Dad should try harder and get me a little sister to play with." Lu Zhizhe didn't think much before blurting out whatever came to mind.
"Get lost! Why don't you listen to the nonsense you're spouting?" Dong Fang said with a laugh, annoyed. "If you want to have a baby, you can have one yourself. I can't have any more. If I have another one just like you, I'll be so angry I'll die."
Lu Zhizhe smiled but didn't respond to that. He picked up his camera, gestured towards Dong Fang, and said, "Mom, let me take a picture of you."
"Oh dear, what are you doing? No, no, what's the point of taking pictures of me now that I'm old and ugly?" Dong Fang waved her hands repeatedly in refusal.
"It's no big deal, let's go get our hair dyed first before we take the photos." At this moment, Lü Zhizhe was incredibly proactive, grabbing Dong Fang and heading out.
Dong Fang was certainly not unwilling. After some back and forth, the two agreed to dye her hair at the end of the year. Now, Dong Fang was sitting on the bench, half-heartedly and reluctantly, sitting upright with her hands on her knees and a hint of nervousness in her eyes, waiting for her son to take a picture of her.
After taking a few photos, a couple of passersby came by, and Lü Zhizhe handed over his camera to them, asking them to take a few more photos for him.
He sat down next to Dong Fang and affectionately hooked his arm around hers, which finally made Dong Fang feel a little gratified. This was indeed her biological son from back then, and she hadn't given birth to the wrong baby.
The impromptu comments from passersby were also exceptionally helpful. While filming, they praised her, saying things like, "Sister, you're so lucky to have such a filial son." Lu Zhizhe glanced at Dong Fang out of the corner of his eye and clearly saw that she could barely suppress the smile on her lips.
After taking the photos, Dong Fang glanced at her phone and said to Lü Zhizhe beside her, "Let's go back. Your dad saw some fried dough sticks by the roadside and bought some for us to try when we get back."
After hearing this, Lü Zhizhe shook his head dismissively and sneered, "Fried dough sticks, what's so good about them? It's what Gang Boning ate."
Dong Fang turned her head away and looked at him with surprise: "What's wrong? Isn't this your favorite food when you were little?"
Especially when you make soup with it, crack in a couple of eggs, add some vegetables and salt, it's so delicious and filling. You used to love it when you were little, don't you remember?
Lu Zhizhe, without batting an eye, distanced himself from his past self: "That was before. Now I'm all grown up and I don't like eating this kind of food anymore."
I just happened to call my dad over, and before it got dark, our family took a picture together here.
"Oh dear, your dad is probably even less willing than I am," Dong Fang said, but she took out her phone and called her dad: "Old Lu, come to the park over here, our son wants to take a picture of our family together."
Dong Fang chatted with her husband on the phone for a while before turning to Lü Zhizhe and shaking her head, saying, "Your dad isn't happy."
Lu Zhizhe snorted and took the phone from Dong Fang, speaking to his father: "Hey, Comrade Lu, come here quickly. You've worked hard for so many years and finally achieved some status. I don't want Xiao Deng to only see his grandfather with white hair and looking old and frail in the future."
