Chapter 622 - 593: Baby Boy
Chapter 622 - 593: Baby Boy
In the waiting area outside the surgical unit, the Forrester and Thorne families sat quietly waiting.Simon Forrester had been restless for a long time; he was now pacing back and forth outside the sliding door of the surgical unit. Every time the door opened, he joyfully peered inside.
This time, the door opened again, and instinctively, he looked over, eagerly watching the medical staff standing inside the door.
"Sienna Thorne, family of Sienna Thorne!" a nurse from the obstetrics department called out.
Simon Forrester strode over: "That’s me, I’m Sienna Thorne’s husband."
"The baby is born already; it’s a six-pound-seven-ounce boy. He and his mother have been taken to the recovery room. One family member can follow me inside to change into sterile clothing."
Quentin Thorne and his wife, along with Old Master Forrester and Sylvia Langley, gathered around as well.
Old Master Forrester asked, "Has the baby arrived?"
The obstetric nurse was too busy to explain much and instructed, "Only one family member can come in!" With that, she walked inside.
Seeing that the nurse didn’t answer whether the baby was born and only focused on calling one family member inside, Quentin Thorne and Melinda Linton thought their daughter might be in trouble and became anxious: "What’s wrong with Annie? Ah?"
Simon Forrester snapped back to his senses, a smile spreading across his lips, "The baby is born—a boy, six pounds seven ounces." With that, he hurriedly followed the nurse inside to change clothes.
The automatic door of the obstetric surgical unit closed again.
Old Master Forrester was momentarily stunned, then burst into hearty laughter, unable to close his mouth, exclaiming excitedly, "A boy! It’s a boy! Oh, Annie is really amazing!"
He pulled out his phone to call his wife and son to announce the good news.
Sylvia Langley was also very happy, holding Melinda Linton’s hand and saying with a smile, "Mother and child are safe, mother and child are safe! Annie has worked hard!"
Melinda Linton’s eyes were already red as she looked up at Quentin Thorne standing beside her, nodding to him with tears slipping down from the corners of her eyes.
Their unfortunate daughter finally ushered in a brand-new life.
Meanwhile, Simon Forrester had followed the nurse inside to change into sterile clothes and slippers and was led to a small recovery room.
In the recovery room, there was a hospital bed and a companion chair.
Sienna Thornton’s shoulders, neck, and collarbone were exposed outside a green blanket, and she was resting with her eyes closed.
As Simon Forrester walked in, he noticed a small bundle of life nestled at her chest, eagerly nursing.
The little one was bare-skinned, pressed up against his mother’s nude body, nursing with his eyes closed, his hands, and the skin of his body, closely pressed to his mother’s.
So, this was their son...
Simon Forrester felt his heart soften entirely, quietly moving over to the companion chair by the window, sitting down silently to watch his wife and child, not daring to make a sound to disturb them.
The baby nursed for a while but then, perhaps not getting enough milk, began to cry loudly. Sienna Thornton woke with a start and, seeing her husband sitting by the window, her eyes turned red as she choked out, "When did you arrive?"
"I’ve been here for a bit," Simon Forrester said, standing up to kiss her forehead, "How do you feel now? Any discomfort?"
She shook her head, "No, I don’t really feel anything yet."
He wanted to ask if she was scared during the surgery, but worried that she’d just gone through a major operation and was exhausted, he held back, instead saying, "You should rest for a while; I’ll watch over the baby."
She nodded with red eyes, glancing down at the little one nestled in front of her, and said with a smile, "I didn’t expect it to be a boy; we all thought it was going to be a girl."
He chuckled, a smile spreading to his eyes, "A boy is nice too."
She agreed, closing her eyes, thinking how Old Master Forrester would be satisfied this time and wouldn’t be in such a hurry for her to have a second child.
The baby, meanwhile, continued to wail, so Simon Forrester moved over to lift the baby up slightly, helping him to latch onto the breast again. With something in his mouth, the baby promptly resumed nursing.
This happened a few rounds, and it was unclear if the baby got any milk, as he would cry after nursing for a bit. Later, Joyce Sutton came in to check Sienna Thornton’s wound and vital signs, and said they could return to the room. Together, they moved back.
...
Back in the room, as the anesthesia began to wear off, Sienna Thornton gradually became aware of the pain.
Joyce Sutton was still in the room and called an anesthesiologist to set up a pain pump for Sienna Thornton. Then she advised that for the next month, kangaroo care is beneficial.
"This can help the baby maintain better sleep, increase parent-child interaction, and reduce the baby’s restlessness and crying, which is a great way to care for them," Joyce Sutton said and asked the nurse to place a sandbag on Sienna Thornton’s abdomen.
Sienna Thornton guessed it was for compressing the lochia and started crying even before the bag was applied.
Simon Forrester hurried over, holding her hand and comforting her softly.
Seeing this, Joyce Sutton smiled, "I’ll be gentle, it won’t hurt." Saying so, she quickly pressed a finger below Sienna Thornton’s navel.
"It doesn’t hurt, right?"
Sienna Thornton nodded, not as afraid anymore. Yet with the increased frequency of pressing, the wound still began to ache, and by the end, she covered her eyes and cried, repeatedly saying "Never again c-section."
When she cried, the baby, who had been lying in the small bed, began crying as well, prompting Simon Forrester to rush over to soothe the child.
The baby cried until he was tired and then fell asleep again.
Sienna Thornton was in a half-sleeping, half-awake state. Although the wound wasn’t as painful now, she couldn’t sleep soundly. Part of the reason was feeling unwell, while another was always wanting to check if the baby was awake or needed feeding.
Melinda Linton and Quentin Thorne went back to prepare food for Sienna Thornton, and Old Master Forrester went back to rest, leaving only Sylvia Langley and Simon Forrester to accompany them.
Sylvia Langley had given birth naturally and had no idea how to help as she watched Sienna suffering, only feeling anxious.
She suggested, "How about hiring an experienced nanny to come over?"
From the bed, sweaty and in pain, Sienna Thornton shook her head, "No need. We’ll be going to a postpartum care center after discharge in a few days. Having strangers around will unsettle me."
Indeed, all the agitation she felt was what every new mother has to go through, and no matter how experienced a nanny is, she still has to go through it all.
Since the new mother should be the priority, Sylvia Langley didn’t propose any other ideas and could only help wipe Sienna’s sweat with some homemade methods.
The room had a kitchen, and the pot and ginger were things Sylvia Langley had brought over yesterday. She had already cooked a pot of ginger water in the morning, and now she heated it, soaked a towel, and helped Sienna Thornton wipe her sweat.
After six hours post-surgery, it was necessary to help Sienna Thornton turn and sit up. She was covered in sweat again, so Simon Forrester and Sylvia Langley busied themselves, one with hot ginger water, the other wiping her sweat.
With all this activity, it was nearly evening when Quentin Thorne and Melinda Linton brought over dinner, and mother and son were surprised to find they had forgotten even to eat lunch.
Simon Forrester and Sylvia Langley went out to the living room to eat and rest, leaving the room to Quentin Thorne and Melinda Linton.
Sienna Thornton hadn’t eaten anything in 24 hours, hungry and weak, sweating profusely, and feeling even more irritable.
Joyce Sutton happened to come by for rounds, and Sienna Thornton asked pitifully, "Dr. Sutton, when can I eat?"
Joyce Sutton smiled, "After removing the catheter tomorrow morning, try walking around more to pass gas as soon as possible."
So does that mean she might not even be able to eat tomorrow?
Sienna Thornton felt like she was falling into depression.
