Chapter 621 - 592: Six Jin, Seven Liang

Chapter 621 - 592: Six Jin, Seven Liang

Sienna Thornton was already covered with several layers of sterile surgical drapes, with a frame set above her chest. All she could see was the strong light above and the green fabric; nothing else was visible. But she knew Dr. Scott Langford had arrived.

The director cautiously inspected the pre-surgery preparations, while the young man walked to the side where Sienna could see him, holding his hands clad in white surgical gloves up high.

She looked up at him.

Scott Langford was dressed in green surgical scrubs, a headscarf with fruit patterns on his head, his face mostly hidden by a large mask, revealing only a pair of deep eyes.

Yet even so, Sienna could tell his eyes were smiling.

He nodded to her and whispered, "Don’t be afraid, the surgery will only take half an hour. We’ll chat, and it’ll be over before you know it."

Though Sienna was nervous, she didn’t forget to greet him, "Dr. Langford, thank you for your help today."

Scott Langford shook his head, "We’re family, no need to be so formal." After speaking, he looked up at the monitors tracking Sienna and the baby’s condition behind him.

To ease her tension, Sienna found a topic, "Are you also participating in the surgery?"

Scott Langford lowered his eyes to look at her, smiling, "I’m just here to chat with you; the director and Dr. Sutton are handling things at the surgical table."

His relaxed tone eased some of the tension in Sienna’s heart.

The anesthetist sitting behind the surgical bed chuckled, "Young lady, don’t worry! With our director presiding over the surgery and Dr. Langford coming all the way from the South just to oversee things, you can be completely at ease!"

Sienna, feeling shy, said, "I’m about to become a mother, not exactly a young lady..."

The anesthetist laughed heartily, "Oh, yes, I almost forgot. If you didn’t say, I’d think you just started college. You look even younger than my daughter who’s in her third year."

Although Sienna knew everyone was trying to cheer her up and often received such compliments, she still blushed and smiled with pressed lips.

From the surgical table, Dr. Joyce Sutton glanced over, teasing the anesthetist, "Don’t underestimate her. Deputy Director-General Thorne takes a team each year to battle with the likes of The M. Republic and the O Alliance at the WTO; the scenes he’s witnessed are far bigger than anything here in the OR."

"Oh!" The anesthetist carefully examined Sienna, joking, "Seems I have eyes but failed to recognize who you are, my apologies."

Of course, he knew all along that Sienna was Quentin Thorne’s daughter, newly promoted to Deputy Director-General in the Treaty and Law Department earlier that year. But everyone was lightheartedly joking to ease the atmosphere and relieve the mother’s tension.

At exactly ten o’clock, the surgery began.

Because she was under anesthesia, Sienna was oblivious to what was happening with her belly during the entire process.

Scott Langford closely monitored the indicators on the instruments while cooperating with the anesthetist to engage Sienna in conversation.

Long curious as to how Scott Langford and her own husband ended up becoming friends with the so-called Northgate Trio, Sienna asked about the fun times they had at Q University when Dr. Langford brought it up.

"During undergrad, I shared a dorm with Tobias, Gage Grant, and Jack Hawthorne. That’s how we got close," Scott Langford explained, "At the time, Jules’s dorm was right next to ours. Since he grew up with Gage Grant and was middle school classmates with Tobias and Jack, he often came by, and we all started hanging out."

Sienna laughed, "It’s hard to imagine such different personalities can become such close friends among you five."

Thinking of the quirky Gage Grant and Jack Hawthorne, Scott Langford smiled and acknowledged, "Tobias, Jules, and I have a good rapport." Their similar personalities made them mature, stable, and steadfast individuals.

As they chatted, Scott Langford occasionally looked up to intently monitor the instruments behind him. A few times when Sienna’s blood pressure dipped slightly, he quickly notified Joyce Sutton and the director at the surgical table. The process thankfully remained smooth, with the monitoring devices never raising any alarms.

Suddenly, Sienna frowned with discomfort, letting out a soft groan.

Scott Langford immediately asked, "Are you feeling any discomfort?"

The anesthetist also looked over with concern.

Sienna quietly said, "I feel a bit of pain inside my belly, like someone’s pressing on it..."

Before she could finish speaking, a baby’s loud cry suddenly echoed. She looked ahead in surprise, "Has the baby come out?"

Joyce Sutton confirmed, "Yes, the baby is out!"

Sienna then saw a baby with wet hair, wrinkled skin, and a slightly reddish color being passed by Joyce Sutton to a nearby pediatrician.

The director said, "I’m cleaning your uterine cavity now and will do some stitching. The surgery will be over soon."

Sienna’s eyes were wide open, staring unblinkingly at the loud crying little one on the newborn’s treatment table, momentarily forgetting to ask whether it was a boy or a girl.

The pediatricians were busy cleaning the baby and performing various checks.

After a while, Sienna heard them announce, "August 12, 2023, 10:18 AM, a boy weighing six pounds, seven ounces, and 53.5 centimeters tall, very healthy!"

The director, who was stitching, laughed, "Are you sure it’s 53.5 centimeters? Did you measure wrong?"

The pediatricians laughed, "Measured twice, no mistake!"

Joyce Sutton also laughed, "The baby’s father is very tall, I guess around 1.9 meters. It’s normal for the child to be this tall. We could already tell from the previous ultrasound showing long legs. I thought the baby must be a boy then."

Sienna snapped back to reality, "Ah? It’s a son?"

The director looked over and laughed, "A son is great, right? Thornton himself has two daughters, so he’s probably been hoping for a grandson! Besides, your husband is the Forrester Family’s only son and grandson, I’m sure Old Master Forrester will be thrilled to have a great-grandson!"

It’s not just hopeful, it’s an obsession.

Scott Langford also seemed surprised, "Yesterday afternoon, when I visited the ward, Jules told me it was a girl. I thought you’d already asked about the sex."

"We didn’t ask," Sienna said, a bit embarrassed, "During the 4D scan, the baby looked like him, so we assumed a baby resembling the father should be a girl."

The anesthetist added, "Exactly! My daughter and I are like molded from the same pattern, always saying she’ll get cosmetic surgery in Yorai after college before finding a job."

The group all laughed.

The pediatrician, holding the baby already wrapped in a swaddling cloth, brought him over and gently smiled, "Come, baby, give mommy a kiss."

The baby’s mouth was indeed puckered as if searching for milk, and when brought closer by the pediatrician, gave his mother a little kiss.

Sienna tried hard to turn her head to see her baby, and as she caught a glimpse of his face, tears welled up in her eyes.

At the surgical table, the director heaved a sigh of relief, "All stitched up, prepare to move the mother and newborn for kangaroo care, and inform the family."

The operating room bustled again, with Joyce Sutton and the nurses tidying Sienna’s clothes and covering her with a blanket.

The director walked over and smiled at Sienna, "The surgery was successful. You’ll be with your baby shortly."
