Chapter 1049: Shocked
Chapter 1049: Shocked
"Mom, I don’t want to know." Lucy Wells’ answer made Emma Wells ask in surprise, "You don’t want to know?""Mm, as long as you’re okay, that’s enough. Him, I don’t want to acknowledge." Lucy felt extremely resistant toward Jerry Taylor. All these years, the reason she had swallowed her anger and put up with everything was because she felt her existence was a stain on her mom.
So no matter how her uncle and aunt picked on her, she never talked back, she just wanted to be a little more obedient so her mom’s life could be a little easier.
As for that man, she really did hate him.
It was just that, because her mom never mentioned him, she hadn’t asked since she became old enough to understand. She didn’t want to make her mom sad.
Emma Wells looked at her daughter, pressed at the corner of her eye in distress, and said, "Lucy, this is my fault. I never really told you the whole story."
"Back then I was on a business trip and was kidnapped by some bad people. Your dad, at that time, must have been working on some mission and was trying to get in with that group. Back then... he and I... In the end it was also because of him that I managed to get away."
Emma Wells realized that after finally speaking out the secret that had been buried in her heart for so many years, it actually didn’t hurt as much as she’d imagined.
Especially now that she knew those people had already gotten what they deserved, she felt as if she’d let go.
"This whole thing had nothing to do with your dad. Actually... I was even scared back then, terrified he might not survive." Emma gave a complicated little smile. "So when I found out I was pregnant with you, I chose to give birth to you."
"You don’t need to hate him. He doesn’t know you exist. He did look for me, but in that vast sea of people, and with us having met abroad back then, he just couldn’t find me." Emma Wells let out a light sigh.
"Then how did he find me now?" Lucy Wells asked suspiciously.
"He saw you at the hospital..." Emma still didn’t know what kind of expression she should be making. Was this what people called fate? "He saw the jade pendant on your wrist."
Lucy Wells, shocked, reached up to touch the jade pendant on her wrist.
"Your dad wants to be able to come see you in the future. If you don’t agree, you can refuse. I absolutely won’t force you," Emma Wells said. "I just wanted to tell you that what happened back then wasn’t something your dad did to hurt me. I hope you won’t hate him."
"I don’t know." Lucy felt like her mind was in a mess.
"Lucy, there’s no rush. Take your time and think about it. This isn’t something that needs to be decided right away." Emma Wells looked at Lucy with guilt. If it weren’t for her, Lucy wouldn’t have grown up with such an introverted personality all these years.
She had failed her own child.
"Mom, this whole thing has nothing to do with him, and nothing to do with you either." Lucy Wells lifted her head and, seeing the guilt on Emma Wells’ face, felt her heart twisting in pain. She hurried over and wrapped her arms around her mother.
Mother and daughter didn’t sleep the entire night. They lay in bed and talked till dawn.
As for Jerry Taylor, Clarissa Taylor went straight over to him to keep her brother company.
The news that Lucy Wells’ father turned out to be Jerry Taylor spread through their circle very quickly.
Hayley Cole, who had originally been waiting to see a joke, was dumbfounded when she heard it: "What did you say?"
Laughter came from the other end of the phone. "Right? You’re shocked too, huh? I was stunned when I found out. Who would’ve thought that the fiancée Young Master Bright chose would actually be Jerry Taylor’s daughter."
"I heard from the people who attended Young Master Bright’s engagement party that the scene was absolutely explosive. Everyone there was completely dumbstruck! Let me tell you..."
